Thai computer manufacturers can sell you a PC for as little as 12,900 Baht +VAT (Celeron 2.5, 128MB DDR, 40GB, 17", 56k, 52X)

Have you bought one? What have been your experiences? Sales, Delivery, Build Quality, Support, Repairs etc...

Thanks

I did not buy any of these ... I build my own :o

but, I can say, I saw some coming for repair ... most of the time, just simple little things, but when these machines come back from any Thai-shops(for a repair) .. then people call me ... I still wonder why? :D

I won't buy them either, although the price does seem cheap!

A self assembled box with the cheapest parts available and above specs(with Celeron 2.4 , didn't know 2.5 existed!) would set you back approx. 14000 Baht. And this would be a system I wouldn't recommend to anybody. Just a few thousand more would give you a much better system! I haven't seen much after sales service from any company in Thailand! (there are exeptions though, but hard to find...one needs to get lucky)

Have a look at the spec.

Intel M/B in Thailand forget it

Seagate Drive OK but be prepared for it to die.

Ram .. ask for brand.

Box. immaterial

keyboard 120 baht

mouse same

processor.. same as RAM though you did say 2.5 celeron

monitor.. usually garbage

On board VGA, sound, LAN and so on.

12,900 can be done but it sounds like an ICT.

Go spend 23K or so and you get reliable and warranty.

PM me for specifics.

I bought an ATEC Klass more than one year ago - it has been working perfectly ever since.

I bought another ATEC in May for the wife and child to play a few games and after an initial problem, has worked perfectly.

Because of that I bought an ATEC laptop for e-mails upcountry, and so far it has worked perfectly.

I don't know about any of the others, but from my experience ATEC is OK!

There seem to be two schools of thought on computers. The older folks remember the ability to upgrade and want solid, over rated components. Those of today and some of us converts believe the computer is now a throw away item and should be bought on price/performance (and for most users performance is not that critical). Although repairs are still possible in Thailand with its low wage scale I buy on price with the exception of monitor. Any of the factory or shop built units should last the normal 3 or so years before tech specs and software dictate we buy new. It is very frustrating to find that the high end item your bought a couple of years ago can not be upgraded because technology has changed so much.

My only problem with ATEC has been based on their service. ATEC laptop, Bangkok for repairs. 8 weeks later, still no re-appearance. It isn't the machine it's the lack of service and qualified service personnel.

Laptops I use Compaq in CM, just because they have a service office here. My personal favorite Dell. Service office in Malaysia who supported me through a dead monitor on a Latitude LT. Sent the parts (when they were convinced I knew how to do the change).

Desktops, build them as I need them, change when I want to. Add bits as required etc.

I found Khun WALLOPH at their service centre, up at Phaya Thai Plaza, the most helpful and obliging - and done in three days.

So you got the ultra new SUH keyboard eh?

I gave mine to the smith family. They needed a perch for their chickens.
