Locating Town By Ip Address

Is there a way to pinpoint a specific town in Thailand from an IP address? The checks I've managed to run only give me the country and the ISP details.

Try here:

http://www.visualiptrace.com/

http://www.tialsoft.com/hwhois/

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools.../WinWhois.shtml

These freeware packages only tell you ISPs etc, to get more advanced info is a more detailed program and search. Try tjhose, I used to use them PM me if you want a more advanced package.

Enjoy :o

(placed me in Khon Kaen tho :D )

Your right Baht and sold,

they are never 100% I believe, anyways who says they are using a real IP address anyways? :D

:o another freebie: http://www.ip2location.com/free.asp

Thanks for the replies, interesting results I got:

The first three links are software packages that tell me what I already know.

geobytes.com locator gave me Chonburi

hostip.info gave me Chiang Mai

IP2location.com gave me Thailand and the ISP

:o still in the dark! :D

for most countries a simple traceroute is the answer....the reverse dns for the routers/users IPs normally contain the city code..... i dont think thai isps follow this...worth a try..

Most big Thai ISPs use proxy servers that can mis-lead you as to where the machine you're trying to trace actually is.

cv

This would probably explain the varied results. The tracert indicated Bangkok on the 3rd from last hop so ... I guess thats the closest I'm gonna get!

I'm no pro at these things and I've only had to do it once but if you have solid evidence (copy the message and message source -which is attached to every msg or post of course- and a legit complaint by a user to back it up helps as well, which I had) of someone going way, way, way over the line on your site buksida, contact the isp you traced directly and supply the proof (which they can verify and trace via their various proxy records).

I did and they were very proactive- sent me a reply in 24 hrs and followed up stating they'd taken action (I know what but won't say, satisfied tho;). In another country, you'd probably have to get a court order and also prove that someone other than the householder didn't do it but here... bless them :D Anyways, all quiet since :D

Now I s'pose one could go to an internet cafe and login thru a webmail acct and get away clean (if they'd never logged on thru a private account before). Still, for your habitual offender, that's not as likely. Most sit at home on prepaid dialup etc and actually think they can't be traced- adsl is even easier for isp's to trace obviously.

There's a person here in the ladies forum lately whom may wish to take note :o

I found many IP addresses from user's in the U.S. to be Australian ones, and many IP addresses from user's in Europe to be netherland ones, despite the fact that they are in Scandinavia or Germany.

Many ISPs work global, and thus you get whatever IP they have from whereever :o

You can use such info as a hint only, not as reliable data.

from my mail servers log i get users IPs as 203.144.160.245, 203.144.160.244 etc etc

just do a reverse dns n u get names like caching4-true.asianet.co.th n so onn...

meaning as per my logs no matter how many ppl usin true access my websites, it would show as only max 10 unique visitors....

this is sad...

the web masters should be able to get the correct IP of the users browsing their site.....for whatever reasons....

if the ISPs use their proxy that means i visit say buksida's site n write some bad/disturbing comments, can buksida hold true responsible in the court of law? as the comment was technically posted from true's server.
