If you only want to visit France then just get a French visa and your done & dusted.

The visa was marked as " ETATS SCHENGEN ". In theory I suppose its not a " French visa " however you can go to their Embassy for the Schengen visa ?

It was not a French visa, it was, as the stamp said, a Schengen visa. It would have allowed admittance to all the other Schengen states as well. You can apply for a Schengen visa at the embassy of any member state, but should do so at the one of the state you intend to visit first.

For more details see The Schengen acquis and its integration into the Union.

Thanks everyone for your help on this matter. It is now clear to me what I have to do to take the g/f to France. After getting the UK visitors visa, I then need to go to the French embassy in Bangkok. does anyone know how much the schengen visa will cost?

Should be Euro 35.00 as per their web-site

http://www.diplomatie.fr/venir/visas/index.html

I based on residence Thailand and p/port Thailand.

AFAIK, European embassies in Bangkok have fees in Euro but accept Baht on

daily exchange-rate.

Good luck!
