Featured Replies

This is why I love TV. Even the parrot from "George of the Jungle" gets a mention.........

Happy birthday Tuky! :)

Happy birthday

Hey Thanks folks.

It has been a while now yeah?

I didn't realise anyone remembered me :)

Infact I think most folks now days wouldn't have a clue who I am, including my ex-wife.

Anyway, I am busy in South Korea now days, home is Indo with my new little girl there.

Plus I actually own my own home, in my name so no crazy wife can take it away from me.

Frig it is cold here.

That is why some people come to Thailand for the winter. The nights are pretty cool in Chiang Mai right now, but not like Korea... or Canada.

Have a good birthday and someone will remember again next year.

It's possible to own your own house and land in Indonesia?

In some places mate, namely Barelang which is in a special economic zone due to it's proximity to SIngapore.

This is to encourage businesses, and people like me to help with growth rather than just settle in places like Thailand.

Sorry Thailand, you gotta give if you want to take.

From that I gather if you wanted to buy a villa in Bali to retire in, it's not so easy?

Bali has both freehold and leasehold mate. I was looking at Bali a while ago but I heard some bad stories regarding people rocking up later to tell you you bought the land fraudulantly and it still belongs to them.

Also, my girlfriends Uncle is a member of the local government and he strongly advised not to buy in Bali as he said the terror is not yet finished, he thinks another bombing or similar is iminent.

Anyway, beside all that Bali would be a nice place to retire, there are some beautiful places there and very farang friendly.

So in short, Barelang and Bali are the only places in Indo that you could own any land, and even then it has to be high level housing, not cheap houses. My 2 bedroom villa cost me 30K AUD with enough land for a BBQ a fish pond and a gazebo.

It is nothing to write home about mate, but I am very comfortable there.

Someone said to me once that there is an inverse proportion between the size of your house and your family happiness.

I was miserable in my old Big house in Thailand, but happy as larry in my tiny little cheapo in Indo.

I even have a turtle :)

What did you name the turtle?

We used to have a tortoise once. We called it woodbine because it would make a good ashtray when dead.

hehehe, nice one.

I was really inventive and called him Tony.

I lost him once and about 3 months later he turned up in the shower at my mates place, scaring the crap out of my mates wife.
