Do Not Use Car For 3 Months.

Featured Replies

We are leaving LOS for 3 months. The question is what to do with the car. It is a Navara 4WD diesel from 2009. One mechanic in the shop said to put it on blocks, the other one said blocks not necessary.

Any comments, even advice please?

Safety is no issue, we can leave the car close to the house of the in laws. They could start the engine now and then but no driver's licence.

Thanks

several existing threads on this, but

pump up the tyres to 45psi to avoid getting squared

clean up interior, remove floor mats, and force venting of car by open the escape vents between cab and bed or leave 1 cm gap on rear windows if you have rain protectors covering them

wax car before going, do not cover it in a condom, park so water can run off bed

disconnect battery

engine is better off not being started

anything forgotten guys?

With a diesel there is no chance of the fuel going bad.

KBB gives good advice re tire pressure.

Cover well, disconnect battery & you should be fine. ooops - park in the shade.

90 days is no problem whatsoever for a diesel pickup.

If no recent oil change I would also change the oil just before leaving though and drive as little as possible after the change before parking.

Older oil has corrosive gases that will gas up and can cause an undetectable amount of damage for the future life of the engine..

Thats about it. If it is in the sun, cover the tyres with something. :)

I used to leave my car, inside for 10 months every year, pump up the tyres, disconnect the battery, and cover up.

no problems on return, the time should be no problem, just the sun if outside

In Thailand I actually find humidity worse than sunshine. The sun keeps mold away from interior, as long as damp is allowed to escape

and leave the P-brake off
