Found it on the web quite awhile ago. There are other sites like this one (grafitti text on walls for example), but I don't have links for them.

In fact, some pics from those other sites are probably buried in this thread somewhere.

I wish it didn't put everything in caps though, and wish it would let you use Bold, Italics and Underlining.

But hey, it's free !

A 'touchy-feely' CNN reporter, while interviewing a Marine sniper asked,

"What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist."?

The Marine shrugged and replied, "Recoil." :o

A LOT of recoil, if you're reaching out and touching some one a long way away, with a .50 cal sniper rifle !

(Same rifle our boys were using when they set the new record for a long distance kill, during the initial invasion of Afghanistan).

"The longest confirmed sniper kill of the Gulf War was reported to have been made by a Barrett Model 82A1 sniper rifle at a range of 1,800 meters."

Gung Ho! :D

so that was by a SAS guy? :o

Care to elude how you came to that conclusion?

AFAIK, it was a marine. The previous record was held by a sniper from a kill during the conflict in 'nam.

Does killing by snipers belong in this topic?

How low can we sink to even discuss such a thing as 'record in killing by a sniper'... :D

I got confussed with Desert Storm and how Storming Norman forbade the use of Special Forces with the exception of the SAS.......

A U.S Marine.

Marine Corps snipers are the finest. Harvey Oswald was just a regular Jarhead - not a sniper - and only ranked as a sharpshooter, but a fine shot never-the-less! :D

A kill from 2,430 metres

By Michael Smith and Chris Wattie

National Post

(exerpt from article)

One member of the team, a corporal from Newfoundland, said on his first night in combat he and his partner got an al-Qaeda machine gun in their sights as it was hailing bullets down on U.S. troops below. Crawling up into a good position, they set up their .50-calibre rifle -- the McMillan Tac-50, a weapon the corporal compares to having superhuman power in your hands. "Firing it feels like someone slashing you on the back of your hockey helmet with a hockey stick."

During the next four days of fighting, the Newfoundland corporal set what is believed to be a record for a long-distance shot under combat conditions, hitting an enemy gunman at a distance of 2,430 metres.

The Americans were so impressed by the Canadian snipers that they recommended them for medals after the battle. The five snipers spent 19 days fighting alongside the scout platoon of the United States Army's 187th "Rakkasan" brigade last month, clearing out diehard fighters from the mountains near Gardez in eastern Afghanistan.

(note: the day before, the same sniper also hit an Al-Queda guy at 1,700 meters)

Wikipedia:

current record for longest range sniper kill is 2430 metres (7,972 ft), accomplished by a Canadian sniper, of the third battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI), during the invasion of Afghanistan, using a .50 BMG (12.7 mm) McMillan bolt-action rifle. This meant that the round had a flight time of four seconds, and a drop of 44.5 m (146 ft). The previous record was held by Carlos Hathcock, achieved during the Vietnam War, at a distance of 2250 m.

(note: NOT reccomended for hunting Butterflys !) :o

Kerryd>> Haven't been following the records closely so I didn't know it was recently broken. Impressive shot nevertheless.

And AFAIK, the 2250m record from 'nam wasn't fully verified, hence some shot at 1500some-meter was the record for that era. Could search down more info later, but that was what I read some time back.

Unfortuanly getting exact measurements in a war-zone is always very-very hard...
