Is Obama To Blame For The Unrest In Many Arab Countries?

Featured Replies

OK, there are many causes of unrest and discontent around the world, many of which combine to push people to demonstrate against their leaders.

But in Tunisia the headline cause of the riots was the 30% increase in the price of staples such as bread. The rise in prices has been brought about by two main events - rising population levels and falling food stocks. The population levels are something that the world's politicians will have to seriously consider very soon, and drastic measures of control will be needed. But the falling foodstocks can be solved simply by returning the current areas of bio-fuel farming to food farming in the US.

I'm not knocking the US here, simply pointing out that the last few years much of US agriculture has turned away from food-grain production to bio-fuel production. And the export of food-grain has fallen alarmingly. To an extent this is also true in Europe, but not nearly to the quantities in the US. Should all subsidies on bio-fuel be cancelled and farmers encouraged to revert to food production, or should the world accept that the running of cars is more important than the starving poor?

yes!

No.

Establish a consortium of nations called FOODPEC and artificially raise the price of food until it equals the price of oil and then bankrupt the oil producing countries that you don't like.

Thank you - short, sweet and to the point.

...yet this year, the American corn ethanol industry alone will chug down nearly 5 billion bushels of corn. That is 40% of American corn, 15% of global corn output and 5% of total world grain production. And it is doing so in order to produce just 900,000 barrels per day of ethanol—the energy equivalent of less than 1% of the world's daily oil needs.

all said, self-explanatory, nothing to add!

Global warming or food shortages? Damned if you do, damned if you don't, so do what the hell you want.

No.

...then oil will be flowing free of charge because Exxon, BP, Shell et al will metamorph into welfare institutions.

And what of the countries that produce neither sufficient oil nor sufficient food for their people's needs?

No.

I'm sure they have something they can trade in.

Japan comes to mind. They can move to another country.

But the price of food already exceeds the price of oil: Litre for litre, milk, fruit juice, beer, even bottled water costs more than petrol.

He gets blamed for everything else so why not?

He gets blamed for everything else so why not?

there are still some things he has not been blamed for, e.g. visa runs, the price of beer in Nakhon Nowhere, impertinent sin sod demands, Australian floods and the public debt of southern european countries.

but that might change any time from now.

B)

I can picture the outraged right wingers oiling their keyboards for their response now...

No doubt he IS to blame for most of those.

He gets blamed for everything else so why not?

Only by supporters of the Village Idiot Texan....so there is not much credibility to the accusations. ;)

Let alone from the billabong bozo's. Maybe the village idiots and the billabong bozo's should get together?

If this is found to be true there will be repercussions heard and felt around the world.

It would bring into dispute every law or act of Congress he has signed as well as any treaty with a foreign government. The last two years could be completely undone with major ramifications for America.

It's a big "IF". though.

What a quaint notion. Is anything considered to be true or false anymore? Just fodder for the next pundit filled noisy and noisome news cycle. Pick your favorite pundit and grab some popcorn.

Isaan must be as slow as Georgia. I never saw it either.

There's nothing in the online versions of the newspapers, you'd think Murdoch would be all over it like flies on a bag of prawns in the sun.

Must take a while for things to circulate in Georgia.

that is correct. some (very few) of my buddies over there don't know (yet) that their Commander in Chief is an n-word not a white anglo-saxon newborn christian yale/harvard award winning former alcoholic texan.

their wives are too scared to tell them because they fear being beaten up for spreading <deleted> lies... such as "WinnDixie has again increased the price of taters and maters, i need more household money."
