CNBC.com is not the likeliest forum for a debate about dating. But when the financial news site does broach the topic, it's probably the only place that discusses courtship in terms of "call options" and "unmet arbitrage opportunities."

Here's how it all started. Jennifer Wright at TheGloss.com recently asked CNBC financial reporter John Carney, and nine other "smart men," why so many studies indicate that men prefer dating women who are less intelligent than they are. Carney chalked the phenomenon up to today's "knowledge economy." Less intelligent women have more leisure time because they aren't financially rewarded for staying in school or working long hours, Carney reasoned, and they seek out a smart partner as a means of "economic advancement." As Carney put it, "dumb chicks have both greater opportunities and greater incentives to try harder to date smart men than smart women do."

"Dumb chicks" are usually hotter and even intelligent men usually think with the small head when it comes to sex.

Women pick men to have superior offspring. That might mean, intelligence, strength, wealth, good looks or some combination of those traits or in Thailand someone has to carry the little dog when it gets too tired to walk.

Intelligent men pick women on the basis of a very complex formula that involves time, distance, weather and takes into consideration such diverse things as ….. I won't get into the entire formula as I realize attention spans may be limited and I don't want to restrict the understanding of my words of wisdom only for the more erudite readers. To sum it up succinctly whomever happens to be there when the bar closes gets the call.

Or some might say even more simply that intelligent men pick less intelligent women because they are intelligent men.

The question left unasked, if intelligent men pick less intelligent women why do less intelligent men pick intelligent women? And what happens if the intelligent woman wants an intelligent partner? Will she end up an old maid?

Of course we all know from reading Thai Visa that all of the above is really meaningless and all lasting relationships are motivated and held together by love.

That's true.....however, I'm really turned on by intelligent women and would shack up with a smart ugly woman sooner than a pretty dumb one.

I must agree, I spent 6 years visiting the LoS, often 2 - 3 times a year.

Two regular g/fs, lovely and presumably intelligent.

Unfortunately, we could not have a meaningful discussion/debate, language problem.

Eventually a TVer was getting upset with me......

Gist after many PMs etc, I went to meet her in Manila.

Lovely intelligent, talk about anything, Filipino lady, with whom I fell in love.

Uni grad who some of you here have met, we married 9 months ago.

She now has her N.Z, Permanent Residence.

Nothing against the Thai gals whose company I enjoyed, still friends.

Bottom line was being able to REALLY communicate.
