The "New" Islamic Boogieman

Featured Replies

I'm sorry for your extreme ignoranrce.

In your original post are you claiming that Communism (as in the USSR) was a fabricated threat?

Surely you have the ability to comprehend that the idea of a "Cold War" was purely an manufactured entity {both sides} to perpetuated an enemy....of any sort.

In the late seventies early eighties, the victims of your non-existent cold war would be flown back to blighty in total secrecy for burial without military honours ( public military honours ). Our jolly commando types used to take on the jolly Russki over control of the Kola Peninsular ( actually a bit of their land strangely enough ). This undeclared war took the lives of many and it was jolly cold I'll tell you.

War is very big business....history will always reflect this fact.

That proves it then!

As someone who lived in the former USSR for about 13 years I can tell you it was for real. The people who were under Soviet rule sure as hell didn't think it was fake threat.

Yeah, the people......this is what zzaa's talking about...the ignorant masses deluded by the profiteers.

That is some stale Communist rhetoric, but what is new?

This is what we are discussing in that other thread. People with no experience in an area belittling the experience of others.

How many years have you or zzaa spent in the former USSR? Months? Weeks? Days? How many hundreds of those "ignorant masses" have you met? I'm close friends with a former missile scientist (she worked on the USSRs answer to Star Wars) and was friends with several other scientists and physicists when I was in Moscow. There were a lot of overly educated people running around doing regular jobs in the years following the fall of the USSR. Don't discount them as ignorant.

"Ignorant" in the context that I used it does not belittle the intelligence or formal education of anybody. No amount of formal education can make one immune to ignorance of matters outside one's sphere of knowledge.

Didn't the Capitalists rhetoric become stale, as well? They both slept in the same bed.

States like China merely use communism as a competitive advantage in their capatalistic trading.

The truer enemy.....?? It is us.

I wish. Then we could quit wasting time in South Asia and send the drones where they are really needed. Instead of rooting boogie men out of caves, we can go after them in their mother's basement. It would certainly be a lot easier and cheaper than what we have today.

There will always be an enemy.

Ever-searching....

Omnipresent.

Even if we have to fabricate them.....

Always taken in.

I was fairly young when the big scare with Russia was going on. Even then, I questioned how real the threat was. I knew they were an enemy and there was danger, but I really didn't think ducking under my desk was going to accomplish much. Stuff like that didn't work with a wild animal or a mean dog and I thought the Russians have to smarter than that.

The terrorism threat is scarier, although I don't worry about it much more than I worry about being in a plane crash or being struck by lightening. And I am not just talking about Islamic terrorists, but some of the homegrown ones as well, like the Oklahoma City bomber.

Lots of not very nice people out there.

It is right that you compare the *threat* of terrorism to a lightning strike as it is even more rare.

Take 9-11 & the Oklahoma events for instance. Look at the time frame & the amount of events & it is obviously rare.

But at the same time we need to look at the possible reasons .......the causes of these effects

It is not so much that there are "lots of not very nice people out there" as you say that concerns me.....

It is that there are *lots of evil people in places of power* & it causes a backlash.

What was McVeigh a former US Army soldier so angry about? The Waco Siege....& while I do not agree with what he did in response to it, I will say

I was upset & embarrassed to watch what our government did at that event in Waco & the same for the Ruby ridge event.
