Chalerm's Son To Contest For A House Seat

His father of course didn't know he had fled to Malaysia, nor did he know he was holed up in Cambodia.

^^

His father certainly wasn't calling him on one-2-call sims cards so that he couldn't be traced. His father certainly made sure witnesses at his sons trial felt safe to testify.

Fine upstanding man with a well orientated moral compass.

For the record, his brief was to be "Mr. Happy Toilet".

BTW didn't one son murder a guy in a nightclub shooting for stepping on his foot and another son (How many vermin did dear old dad breed?) deliberately runover and kill a Thai cop after his girlfriend was pulled over?

So which one was it that ran over the cop that tried to prevent him driving away in his girlfriend's car after she had been pulled over for a traffic violation?

You may be thinking of Deputy Secretary to Deputy Prime Minister, Chonsawas Asavahame, in Thaksin's brother-in-law PM Somchai's Cabinet.

He has a lot in common with the Chalerm's sons Duang and Wan. Similarly he's got a charge sheet an arm long...

UPDATE

Police file eight charges against Chonsawas

Makkasan police Wednesday filed eight criminal charges against Samut Prakan Municipality Mayor Chonsawas Asavahame with the public prosecutor.

Two of his aides were also named in some of the charges which arose from an incident with police on New Phetchaburi Road on May 21.

The prosecutors will announce on July 25 whether the charges warrant being brought to court.

Chonsawas is facing eight charges: resisting officials' instructions without good reason; failing to submit to a driving ability test and a breath test for alcohol; reckless driving; causing damage to property; obstructing an official against his will by applying physical force; inciting three men to use physical force to obstruct an official attempting to do his duty; illegally detaining an official; and insulting an official performing his duty.

The last four charges were also to apply to his two aides, Sakul Pramulchai and Pratya Chaiyakul.

I wasn't in the country in 2008, but found this from August in that year:

Chonsawat Asavahame, son of the fugitive former politician Vatana, wasappointed by the Cabinet on Tuesday as deputy secretary general to ICT Minister and Deputy Premier Mun Patanotai.

Who was leading the government then?

I certainly recall the father, who was a particularly nasty piece of work even by Thai standards. I believe he fled to Cambodia and received a 10-year sentence in absentia for serious corruption over a dam project in 1993 -- it took about 15 years .for the case to reach conclusion.

The government at that time was Thaksin, ver. 3.0 with, the now banned for electoral fraud, Somchai as the head.

Fast forwarding to 2011, we find Chonsawat, similar to Chalerm's son Wan, still in politics:

Chonsawat wins local election in Samut Prakan

Chonsawat Asavahame, a son of former Interior Minister Vatana Asavahame, has won the election of Samut Prakan Provincial Administrative Organization President.

As for his still-fugitive father, we can only presume that the close relationship between Hun Sen and Thaksin assures him of many more years of trouble-free fleeing.

This convicted fugitive Thai, former Deputy Interior Minister Vatana Asavahame:

Curious, was that supposed to be a rhetorical question?

Thanks for clearing that up, I stand corrected:

It's getting harder to keep things straight with so many young thugs in politics (especially so whenever Thaksin is running things - as he is now) crowded into the rogues gallery.

BTW I expect manouvres by Watthana Asavahame and Suriya Jungroongreankit to clear their names like Thaksin have already begun behind the scenes.

'One hand washes the other' as the saying goes.

The ironic thing is that while the elite establishment is certainly flawed, those flaws are not exposed when they are standing side by side with red shirt scoundrels. In many ways, the red shirts are merely perpetuating the elites longevity by the mere ridiculousness of their presence. Policemen turned Government Concession Satellite Mogul. Hmm....

No problem. The cast of characters in this play is a large one.

Many years back Vatana's son was stopped by a policeman for a traffic offense, the son's response was to try to run the policeman down. The cop jumped onto the bonnet of the car to avoid being hit and grabbed the windscreen wipers, vatana's son then proceeded to drive the car in circles at high speed to try to throw him off. There were a number of photographs and clips of the whole event on TV, in the newspapers etc.

Some reporters asked vatan for a comment. His response - 'well he's just a boy who wants to have fun, but if he does two more naughty things then I will speak to him.'
