Where Should OBL Be Buried?

Featured Replies

The USA has the body and I just heard that they are going to bury him within 3 days in line with Muslim tradition. First, that's freakin' ridiculous. Chase the guy for a decade, go in and shoot him up, and now we want to respect his beliefs. Sigh.

Anyway, wherever he is buried could be the new Haj destination of the 21st century. So where should he be buried? Gitmo maybe? At the bottom of the Mariana Trench?

Osama bin Laden has been buried at sea, with his body handled in the Islamic tradition, U.S. official tells CNN.

I thought Islamic tradition calls for the burial within 24 hours of the death.

In Saudi Arabia, I think a lot of the graves aren't marked. I know they did not disclose the location of the King of Saudi Arabia when he died.

At any rate, personally, I think he should be buried in a 4 sq. km area near Preah Vihear temple. He will eternally be lulled by the sound of fighting....something he seemed to like.

They should have buried him at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. All the extremists could make a pilgrimage to the grave and then when they are glowing in the dark, it will be easier to track them down.

Bravo. :cheesy:

You should send that one to Jay Leno or David Letterman.

Not PC enough.

With one teensy little difference. I have heard from a very reliable source his body was placed on a gurney, which was then launched by catapult into the Indian Ocean.

The successful launch was performed by the crew of the USS Carl Vinson.

The rumor that a cook hung a pork chop around his neck prior to the launch has been discounted.

I heard that Muslims can only be buried at sea when they died there. Otherwise it is strictly forbidden

Conspiracy heavy......B)

There are different muslim customs in different parts of the world.

The basics are the same - burial before sunset if possible, otherwise within 24 hours. Obviously when a man has been murdered in a Western country and an autopsy is required by law, this may not be possible.

The body should be buried in an unmarked grave in most arab countries - it is only a piece of meat - the soul has left the building.

In Libya there was often a couple of pieces of wood placed over the head and feet, but when I asked the reason no sensible answer came. (The best was from a friend in the secret police, who said it was to make sure the guy stayed there)

In Indonesia, Sumatera, the graves were marked by head and foot stones, but without any name. Maybe to avoid burying someone on top of another corpse.

In Libya, again, the cemeteries were quite large, with a high wall round them. Other countries have no cemeteries as such, just localities where the majority of bodies wind up. No one builds near them. I didn't work in cities in Indonesia, but out in the countryside, so places like Jakarts, Yogyakarta and so on may be different. Malaysia had bodies buried in the front garden, figuratively speaking, but they may have been Buddhist, rather than muslim.

Burial at sea - I don't have any knowledge of whether this is acceptable or not, but as I said near the beginning, the corpse is regarded as just being that - no persona, no id, no part of the spirit exists in it. So why not make it shark food?

In that case, why not make it dog food or vege garden fertiliser? I'm sure there would be arid parts of agrarian Muslim countries that could do with some extra compost.
