Does This Sound Like Anyone You Know?

Featured Replies

Here is the fact of the age: People believe nothing. They think everything is spin and lies. The minute a government says A is true, half the people on Earth know A is a lie. And when people believe nothing, as we know, they will believe anything. We faked the moon landing, there was a second gunman in Dallas, the World Trade Center was blown up in a U.S.-Zionist conspiracy, Hitler grew old in Argentina.

Thanks. It's a good article. I don't know that I agree, but her point is well taken.

To release or not to release the pictures--it's the presidents decision and he has made it. At some point in the future, my guess is they will be released....or conveniently leaked.

Seems to be newly spreading amongst the instinctive doubter circles......

Just because they say so and such acts have been officialized doesn't guarantee anything, less reality.

Simple points have been brought forth - there hasn't been any true evidence to absorb except for what they promote.

Always healthy to be suspicious towards those who have an unsavoury history.

He did not answer his phone and his family saw him slaughtered in cold blood by the Seals and told the other terrorists. That should just about prove it. :)

Who are the real terrorists?

al-Qaeda has admitted that Bin Ladin is dead. Can the silly conspiracy theories.

How would they know? Just as you or I might know....or not.

They know from the posting in ThaiVisa, of course.

So, whats that got to do with the topic at hand?

if you ask the various cats of my neighbours the answer is: "Naam's dogs!"

Consider The Source

In my own experience I consider the source.

If the source has a good track record of telling the truth I would tend to accept it.

On the other hand if the source has repeatedly proved itself to be fallible I would have to be quite gullible to accept their version....

In both cases that does not assume that I have lost my ability for critical thinking. If it an important piece of information I will look into it myself & decide.

In the article, the sources are governments. What does that tell you? ;)

The OP quotes an excerpt that implies that the current conspiracy theory is as crazy as some historical conspiracy theories. Just because conspiracy theories exist, it doesn't mean that this is one.

Ironically, the OP is one of the conspiracy theorists in this particular case, and asks in his title..."does this sound like anyone you know?"....so, I answer, yes, it does sound like you koheesti.

Coming from someone with absolute zero credibilty I'll take that for what it's worth - nada.

Are you denying that you have been quite certain that there has been a cover-up of sorts in this Bin Laden case?

Expressing your opinion of my credibility is pointless here (and somewhat inflammatory). You asked, I answered.....and my answer was not an opinion or a claim....it is a fact.: you have been sounding like a conspracy theorist. First you posted that you think OBL was "long dead", next you post that you didn't believe he is dead at all and that he was not buried at sea but taken alive.....these are the type of conspiracy theories that the article (particularly your excerpt) is talking about.

You claimed I fit the description in the OP. I don't think everything the goverment says is a lie. I don't think 9/11 was a CIA conspiracy. I believe we landed on the moon. Etc, etc. Alex (and zzaa to a point) are the resident conspiracy people.

As for bin Laden. I don't think it is a conspiracy or a "lie to the people" for important security issues to be kept secret and if that means sending out disinformation, then so be it. I believed he was long dead until the information about the raid came out from the US and others. I changed my mind after this new information came to light (something you should try sometime). However, I have stated here several times my reasoning for believing (and hoping) that they captured him alive. Keeping it quiet if he were alive would not be a conspiracy - it would be the smart thing to do.

Conspiracy theorist don't see themselves as conspiracy theorists any more than true believers in everything the government says see anything but what they are told. So lets exercise care in our accusations of others.

There is no doubt in my mind that many aspects of the Bin Laden operation have not been made public. Like the JFK assassination, we will most likely have to wait a long time to find out many things.

The question is: What are the motives for keeping the information out of the public domain? If it is to protect the innocent, then it's a good idea. If it is to protect the guilty, then probably not.

For example, there was this big bru ha a few months back about the CIA agent who shot a couple of locals and ended up in jail. The US said he had diplomatic immunity, but the Pakistani's said he didn't. An awfully big and public event for this guy. Why was he so important? Was he related to the Bin Laden situation? Were the people he killed related to this situation?

In the JFK situation, the details might embarrass someone or land them in jail but with bin Laden we are at war and in a time of war one side shouldn't be telling the other what is is they have done, are doing or planning to do. I wish the media would realise that. What's up with telling the world about the tail of the stealth helipcopter being left behind?

Many people, particularly American government and media representatives are saying that Pakistan MUST have known OBL was where he was because he lived so close to the military......yet Pakistan did not know that the CIA had a safe house in the same neighbourhood.

BS. More twisting spin. I didn't claim you 'fit the description in the OP", I answered the question of the title....and indeed you have been holding, and continue to hold, a conspiracy theory, that is you do not believe the official version and you have an idea of what the "real" truth actually is, and you don't have proof.....just a theory. You may recall that I agreed with you and thought it was a good theory.

If you are right, it is certainly a lie to the people. A lie is a lie, made with security in mind or not.

As for your 2nd snide comment about me trying it some time.....you have in the past called me a liar simply because I changed my mind in the light of new information....I am the one that is open enough to admit when I was wrong.....it is a pleasant suprise (and a first) for you to do the same, albeit when called on it you still refused to admit you were wrong and decietfully tried to make out that your words "long dead" meant "2 weeks"...(even though 2 weeks prior he had been alive).

As for your first snide and inflammatory comment about my credibility.....you imply that I am decietful or have a history of lying.....you had better back that up with solid proof because it is an accusation that is very offensive, particularly since it is false.

We agree on this. And I am enjoying the exchange between koheesti and Harcourt right now, quite amusing.

It gets tiresome.

An exchange that descends to the level of name calling is likely to have unwanted repercussions. Let's make sure it stays civil.

Don't take the bait and don't flame.

I agree, it does get tiresome. This is Harcourt's MO, he sucks people into these things. Anyone who has been reading OTB for years knows this. If you took the time to analyze these threads - objectively without showing bias to political leanings - to find the one common denominator to these little back-and-forth battles you would see it is Harcourt. The "Watchers" know this to be true.

To summerize my current one with him - and this will be my last word on it then he can troll all he wants after that on the subject;

1. I start a thread "Replying to Does This Sound Like Anyone You Know?" with a description of someone who believes nothing the gov't says.

2. Harcourt replies, ".."does this sound like anyone you know?"....so, I answer, yes, it does sound like you koheesti."

3. I write, "You claimed I fit the description in the OP"

4. Harcourt: "BS. More twisting spin. I didn't claim you 'fit the description in the OP", "

He enjoys wasting bandwidth like this. He knows there are certain posters on here that won't just walk away and let him get away with posting BS. He takes advantage of that to be the forum's main troll.

And the next response to this seriously off-topic and insinuating situation WILL earn a posting holiday.

Enough already.

On second thought, I will close it.

Tired of feeding the troll(s).
