May 16, 201114 yr The sexes exist in a balance that maximizes the ability of the species to survive. I don't think it's sexist to talk about the different roles prescribed by nature. I also don't think those differences should be enshrined in law. Men have historically been explorers. Our distant ancestors couldn't see a mountain without checking to see what was on the other side. Once 'conquered' the women followed. The women often tended the land, planted and harvested and took care of the new nests. The job of men is to make the environment safe for the women and children. Men are deeply disturbed by dangers to women and children. Men have basically failed if they don't protect them. Women blossom, grow and perform in an environment that is safe and secure. Men are motivated by a more hostile environment that needs conquering. These are sweeping generalities, but probably true. It's primarily men, however, that get concerned about the prospect of someone other than a man being in charge.
May 16, 201114 yr Author Women blossom, grow and perform in an environment that is safe and secure. Men are motivated by a more hostile environment that needs conquering. . Yes, that's what this topic is about, an innocent woman attacked and blinded, humiliated and thrown acid into her face by a man who couldn't stand he was rejected by the woman he wanted to be his..... "Men are motivated by a more hostile environment..." LaoPo
May 17, 201114 yr I am not sure what your comment is about. Either people agree with the basic tenants of Sharia Law, or they don't. In this instance, it's an eye for an eye. If the discussion is a little broader, then would this be a news item if a woman had thrown acid on a man? Probably not. The general attitude would be, he must have deserved it. Would she be up for such a punishment? I don't know, but I think it is less likely. The seriousness of a crime depends a who commits it. Women who commit murder are generally punished less severely than men, for example.
August 1, 201114 yr Yesterday the sentence was to be carried out and the victim of the crime gave the acid-thrower a last minute reprieve with forgiveness. I think it was a good result. The criminal has been crapping his pants since the verdict and he still gets to retain his eyes. I am sure he has learnt his lesson. As for the victim, what can't be repaired can't be repaired, but at least she gets financial compensation (and the perp stays in gaol until it's paid), and she has the satisfaction of knowing that she has put the fear of being blinded into the minds of thousands of chauvinist, sexually insecure, sadistic, men. I guess that if she may have had some satisfaction in him squirming in fear for the past couple of months.....and I don't begrudge her that.
August 2, 201114 yr That's amazing indeed...but on the other hand, women have a more kind (softer) heart than men and most women are not into cruelty themselves but I can't judge about Iran men and women. LaoPo i beg to differ and refer to the old wise saying "Hell has no fury like a woman scorned".

August 2, 201114 yr Let's just hope that what he shall go through in jail will make his eyes pop out... If it had been me, he would have had a life long supply of Visine. Two drops a day. Just look at that poor girl's face.... She wasn't Miss World but she was a pretty little thing. I am not a nasty person, but in this case I was actually looking forward to that bastard getting what he dealt. She definitely has a big heart. A ranting Patsycat is not to be scorned either!!!
