Hi guys,

I am looking into buying a low mileage Beetle with the 2.0i engine from 2002.

From my research I understand it is a rather 'sluggish' engine and maybe the Best way is to put a nice turbo kit on to achieve somewhere around 200hp, instead of the stock 115hp.

Anybody knows where to do such a thing in Bangkok in a professional way and what kind of cost I would be looking at?

Other ideas are of course also welcome....

and yes, I do want to keep its reliability as high as possible.

Looking forward to some ideas...

cheers,

frank

2002 2,0 2 valve 115 hp is sluggish.

I would try to find a 1,8T 5 valve. Factory they are rated 150-225hp. 150 can, by chips only, achieve 211hp and approx 280Nm at 2000rpm. You also need an auto to match, as your stock auto cant handle much more

I'd do as Kata suggests and get an engine already built and tuned for a turbo instead of a 9 year old one that may be too tired and need a rebuild to stand up to the turbo compression and power created along with an underrated drive train.. Just saying like... :whistling:

the 2,0/2valve/115 has never been sold by VW with higher rating, so any tuning/kompressor/turbo is prototype with following ECU and autoproblems. If one wants to go that way, I d be looking for a kompressor kit and a larger auto oilcooler

What i recommend:

Ecu-flash, retune.

K&N air filter.

that should give you around 15-20hp more.

if you want 80+hp,

go for a rotrex supercharger kit,

injectors,

flash,

exhaust,

air intake.

external atf cooler

keep in mind the boost should be between 6-8psi. maximum, otherwise you will run the risk of blowing your engine.

if you have the engine specs, i can give you more of an idea what u can expect and what boost level is approriate for you.

No idea here but in Germany... 'Ruf' Porsche also work on the 2002 VW Bettle.... 'Ruf' are now in Thailand maybe they can advise ?

Re gearbox, why is the gearbox not good if fitted with a turbo ? as they make the 2002 Bettle with the 1.8 Turbo engine..

2,0/2 valve/115 and 1,8/5valve/125 uses the same ZF boz, and 2,0/115 is the prefered engine in low octane markets like US and TH. Max 180-200Nm on this box as I recall

1,8T uses another ZF 5 speed tiptronic, and my experience in chipsed 211hp is +200km on this box
