Thai Police Suspect They Have Found Bodies Of 169 Missing Red-Shirts

How come its the first time we hear of 169 missing Red Shirts? Where were the inquiries from family and friends over this allegedly missing people?

Red Shirts have been going on and on over the 92 people killed during their protest, but I haven't heard a pip about any missing persons.

I think this is a bone thrown to the Red Shirts (who are keen on feeding on dead people) to keep them fired up.

Not that I'm denying the existence of the bodies, but coming out and saying that this are missing Red Shirts doesn't sound believable to me.

Depends if you think that the army consider themselves untouchable in this country, and that for the most part the media of the day parrots the line that a sitting government and army want them to parrot. It would take a pretty brave policeman, journalist and owner to have investigated this story under the last government I think. If 169 can disappear, what odds a couple more?

I find it entirely plausible that these are bodies from the riots, however, I worry that the truth now is irrelevant and the army are going to come out swinging because they will have been backed into a corner.

Extremely plausible when it was reported that 120,000 rounds of ammo, that had been issued to soldiers, were never returned. Too much of the recent past did not fit together but with this and I expect other revelations it is starting to. Does anybody know how many of the 2000 injured where actually injured by bullets. I would imagine it would be quite high. Some previously 'untouchables' will be getting squeaky bum if any of this is true

Fishy, the police are generally sympathetic to the reds, if they were in possession of this information previous it would have been leaked to discredit the Abhisit govt and army. Sounds like another Jatuporn accusation to me....

Is the killing on the street just an accusation too?

The red shirts took i.d. cards so NO REDS COULD LEAVE until red leaders allowed them to leave.

When they tried to leave before allowed they were put in trucks and busses and taken out to slaughter. Exactly what happened at the temple behind Central World.

Ballistics prove it. Nobody was shot from the BTS.

Now the cover up begins.

looks more like unclaimed unidentifyable bodies from the Tsunami or as someone mentioned before, Burmese migrant workers, or even war on drugs victims. Lets see what else they have found.

Maybe Chiang Mai hotel guests :whistling:

Yeah those bedbugs can be mighty ferocious

Two men brought in 169 bodies ... and no one asked any questions?

169 missing redshirts, 169 bodies found in a mass grave. Just coincidence thai style. Nothing to see here move along. Thai politics. If this turns out to be the missing redshirts then Ashbit may have a few questions to answer and not just the two guys who were probably paid by government officials to dispose of the bodies but I guess they will be the scapegoats and charged alone with the murders. Were they two men Thai or Burmese?

Can't wait for the world media to grab hold of this and what world leaders will have to say.

Well now this is sort of interesting. Turns out Thaksin's lawyer, Robert Amsterdam, broke the story yesterday in the Notes section of his Facebook page:

Mass Grave of 169 Bodies from 2010 Discovered in Thailand

by Robert Amsterdam on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 9:53am

A summary translation of this news coverage:

Pol.Lt.Gen. Santan has gone to Rayong after the local people complained to the police that there were so many mysterious bodies buried in the area. Local people believed those bodies might be Red Shirts who disappeared last year.

The police, Red Shirt leaders and Red Shirts in Rayong have gone to Wat Klong Ta Temple to meet and talk to the abbot.

The abbot states that two men who work for a charity organisation brought in and buried these bodies here in August last year- they claimed that those abandoned bodies were from Chumporn province ( the south).

"I never saw the condition of those bodies- they just told me these were just the human bones wrapped in white fabric and put inside the coffins. Those coffins were carried inside by the lorry and they used the excavator to dig a hole and buried the bodies - those 72 bodies were all men."

The police then went to Wat Huay Yang temple- the abbot says the same things as the abbot from the first temple- he also took the police to see the graveyards in his temple and other temple called Wat Samorplong- the number of bodies altogether are 169.

The police say they will investigate whether these bodies are Red Shirts who mysteriously disappeared from the demonstration last year or not.

Presumably he would have consulted with his client before releasing such a potentially controversial story?

Don't rush to pass judgement on 169-body mass grave: Army chief

By The Nation

Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha on Friday urged for calm following the discovery of three mass graves where 169 bodies were buried under suspicious circumstances in Rayong.

"Authorities should be able to give a scientific explanation on the 169 bodies," he said.

On Thursday, police exhumed for forensic checks on suspicion that the bodies might be linked to the disappearance of the red shirts during the last year's riots.

The bodies were buried in separate burial grounds of three temples.

Although the temples' abbots said the bodies were undertood to be tsunami victims from Chumphon, police would carry out checks to verify on how and why the bodies had to be transported from the South for burial in the East.

According to the temples' abbots, the bodies had been brought in by two men from a local charity organisation who told them that the corpses had not been claimed and there were no legal cases related to their deaths.

Amazing Thailand where hundreds of bodies can be buried without so much as a "hi diddly-do".

On the heels of the thousands of aborted fetuses found earlier at other temples, the monkhood is taking another hit.

.

Sounds very fishy to me....what happened to the skeletons near Satthahip? Fishermen always had bones and skulls in their nets and when they finally sent divers, the story suddenly ended. Was Thaksin's :jap: mob who did that.....:jap:

Really?????? Please do tell. How do you know this for sure, were you there? Did the internation media want to leave and then they were shot also. I guess you are a stringent supporter of the former government who could never do wrong and every single ill in Thailand is the cause of the redshirts. Open your mind just a little.

This is more of the pot calling the kettle black. Those that came to Bangkok to terrorize the people and the government in order to get their way call those, the government that tried to stop them terrorists. It seems in politics these days that if you call somebody else something you are it makes it right and justifies the actions. Take the US and their occupations of other countries based on false claims and profiteering for example. The 10 million baht compensation is a scam that will encourage families to send their members to the next "rally" in hopes of hitting the jackpot, no shortage of people can be expected.

Why is it that authorities are not called in when dead bodies show up? Aren't these temples assisting in crime if nobody is notified, or were they told not to do so?

In developing countries, the mind seems to be the last thing to develop. :annoyed:

If a fisherman found a skull or two in his net, would he tell anyone? How many fish would he then be able to sell? The SW fishing industry took a big hit after the tsunami because people were reluctant to eat fish that might have been eating the victims. Ghosts and all that crap.

Do you have ANY facts to support this, or is it just part of your stream of rabid drivel?

Do you have ANY facts to disprove my theory? Which part are you so angry about, the incompetence is already proven to be fair, as for my other thoughts they are merely possibilities, hence the use of the word 'possible' in my post, at no point to I present anything in my post that i purport to be hard facts.

Deary me haha

The person making the accusation has to prove it true, not the other way around.

Thats why you will like LM so much. Nobody has to prove anything

Umm, yeah right. Suddenly the bodies which has been dead for more than 1 year has been resurrected somehow.

Santhan said the bodies would be exhumed for DNA tests to determine the identities, adding that those involved with their burial would also be questioned.

How is the DNA going to work in this case? I bet those involved in the burial would have forgotten what happened. In the end, I don't see much progress in this case besides the fact that the 169 bodies might be one of the propaganda tools.

No. they were not resurrected. Rather, the police were acting on allegations that had been circulating for some time. If there are a sufficient number of bone fragments available, DNA samples can be taken. This is how the Bosnian genocide was investigated. Specialized technicians and anthropologists exume the bodies. If Thailand does not have the expertise, then the Dutch, Canadian, Israeli and Swedish governments have many people that do.. As I recall, the Bosnian war crimes investigators asked for and received volunteers from the aforementioned nations' medical examiner offices.

If there are bodies, it should be investigated. Let the police investigate first please.

The Thais do not have the expertise or desire to do detailed examinations of corpses, hell just look at the number of farang deaths here per annum, death is cheap here really cheap nobody will really give a dam_n so little chance of outside help being requested. The main point though is how could the BIB make money persuing this.

169 people in a mass grave is by any standards disgraceful. This needs proper investigation and the dead need to be identified which in this day and age shouldnt be too difficult. This is not about reds and yellows or whatever else. It is about humanity and democracy. You cant rationalise a mass grave filled with bodies when those at the temple dont seem to be able to explain the reason for. Isnt there paperwork before burial?

Shouldn't a discovery of bodies of this number (and this recent - allegedly) get the attention of international media? Where are they?

Instead all we've got is local articles with Thailand's finest already pointing fingers.

Another stink. Start getting your exit visas sorted out.

The media silence on dirty stuff that happens in Thailand, sure is weird.

I've heard a crazy rumour saying that the big international travel agencies are bribing westen media to keep quiet about all disturbing things that happens in Thailand.

It sure sounds crazy and I dont know if it is true, but this is what I've been told.

Another great day for the Nation's reporting.

First off they say that it is suspected Red Shirt bodies that were brought to the temple for disposal last year, NOW they report that the Abbots say the bodies were Tsunami victims from Chumphon. If that is the case presumably the bodies have been "kept on ice" since 2004 and then someone decides to transport these bodies around April last year to the temples burial grounds in the east?!

Another fine example of the art of Journalism by The Nation. Why anyone believes or does not at least treat with suspicion anything The Nation writes amazes me at times...........

Just a distraction to sneek Thaksin in.

Have some humanity man. If this is as claimed there are going to be a whole group of people from and associated with the last government who wont even be able to find a country to run to. Lets honestly hope it isnt, but proper investigation is needed to explain this. Glib statements by abbots who cant produce paperwork or bureaucratic officials not trusted by half the country are not going to convince anyone. And lets not use Thaksin as a distraction from getting to the truth of this very worrying discovery
