Hi all,In theory, if I were to have an expired UK license but all the other necessary paperwork to acquire a Thai driving license in the Sukhumvit test center, has anyone any experience as to whether "oiling the wheels" might help my case to get my license without taking the full test?

Why are you concerned about the test? Its quite easy compared to EU. In Pattaya you do a multi choice on PC and they have an English version too. I failed in first try but was immediately put behind the pc again for another test and passed. After passing you proceed to the practical test which takes 10 min tops.

I haven't heard about money under the table licenses, but do know a guy that is married to a Thai woman that have 3 brothers in the police force. He just give one of them all the paper work and then get the licenses without even showing up, he-he.

Sure, "in theory", "oiling the wheels" might help in your case but, in reality, the Sukhumvit Test Centre, near to the Chevrolet dealership, is for testing vehicles (including motorbikes) and not for processing driving licences. To obtain a Thai driving licence, you would have to go to the Department of Land Transportation Office behind the Regent's School on the Rayong Road....... that is if you live in the Banglamung Area. If you live towards Laem Chabang, then the appropriate office in Ao Udom is where you should go.

Maybe he is referring to Sukhumvit, Bangkok.

Yes, of course. My blinkered thinking didn't include that possibility!!!! I must wake up fully before I write. Thank you Hughden and Beano.
