Is Ranong Immigration Closed ?

Featured Replies

Was told today, by a highly unreliable source, that the visa run option to Ranong is now over.

Two versions :

problems between Myanmar and Thailand because the move of the government to Pyinban (sp ?)

customs have caught too many farang smuggling cigs & booze into Thailand (highly unlikely - usually Customs will let the boat operators know when there is going to be a crackdown).

Any reliable information appreciated. The visa run service I usually use are now going to some small town (Khanjon ????) near Satun. If anyone knows anything about Khanjon - bus services to Penang etc., that would be helpful too.

Haven't heard about Ranong closing. A friend was up there last week on a visa run. He was busted by Customs bringing back 4 cartons of cigarettes and fined

10 000 baht :o

Was up there monday.. All open for biz...

Boat boys warned us that if we wanted cigs or dick pills to let them handle it..

problems between Myanmar and Thailand because the move of the government to Pyinban (sp ?)

Do you mean Pyinmina?? Unlikely to cause any problem for Ranong immigration post. Nothing heard from my end besides some crackdowns - the odd bag check.
