Firefox Not Starting Up

I closed my internet connection shut down the computer. when I wanted to restart Firefox it does not react. I tried to re install and get the message that firefox has to shut down befoore reinstalling please wait... and then nothing happens. when I close the installation screen down I get a message that Firefox is not responding.

I ran all my viruscheckers adware and malware from Microsoft none of them reports anything wrong.

What to do now?

I run Windows XP sp1.

Can I uninstall Firefox without losing my settings and then reinstal afresh?

I'm really puzzled here?

Check task manager, perhaps a firefox process is still active and needs to be manually terminated.

Don't uninstal. Just re-install!

Problem gone.

Apparently some dll got crosslinked. Found it with a registry repair thingy.
