December 15, 201114 yr Author At this time of the year I sometimes have a desire to go back (UK), put on a set of waterproofs and walking boots and take a canalside walk in the cold drizzling rain. Funny you mention that. The boat show was usually in the spring when a cold wind with rain would be blowing through. We had to go into the Hooters on the dock there at Union Bay often to have a beer and warm up! I may have to return there for a year or so to wrap up some financial affairs and possibly aid my daughter in matriculating to the U Dub. I can't say I'm looking forward to it in the least, except for maybe some of the seafood. I'll spare a thought for you as I'm tucking in to the Dungeness crab stuffed mushrooms at Lattitude 47 though. Thank You my friend. Don't forget a glass of Sonoma Cutrer.
December 15, 201114 yr

I went round the new Gourmand Market, near Sukhumvit 28 and Rama IV, but I couldn't see any haggis; I suppose I should've gone round the store anti-clockwise...

SC

I was really trying to scavenge some lunch, but my favourites (8-Noodles in Tesco - closed temporarily for some explained reason) - the little food court on the way to Soi 28 - replaced with fancy developments, and the food court in Soi 35 near the Bull's Head (now Royal Oak - not my Royal Oak, a different Royal Oak - probably a slightly pricier, but busier, Royal Oak) was now a construction site. Bangkok certainly seems to be prospering! So I went up to Soi 7 for my lunch. I've never been one for trying something new... Anyone know where to get haggis in Saigon? Oh I'm in big trouble I am....

December 31, 201114 yr I was down at my almost-local supermarket stocking up on Irn Bru for the bells tonight (no Bells, since I don't believe in spirits), and I happened across a shelf-full of marmite and bovril. In jars, of course (otherwise -euugh yuuk!). Small jars, big jars... I was tempted to buy a jar of bovril, then I thought "No - then I'll need to buy bread, and a toaster... or at least a kettle...." so I'm saving that for a treat later in the year. I had a quick gander over at the butcher's section (sounds a bit rude, that does) but there was no haggis; maybe they're not halal... I noticed that the drink is on open display here, unlike the Emirates, but pork is still kept well away; I suppose there is less risk of cross-contamination with bottled wines and spirits than errant sausages (can I say that on a public forum?) December 31, 201114 yr haggis?...that ain't no hogmany cuisine...ye got to wait fer burns night...with neeps an' tatties... for my benefit in Glasgeh the MiL she got one and said: 'this is what it looks like...'...then she biled and sliced it and I had some with brown sauce...it wasn't unpleasant... the MiL she stood back and said: 'hum...' I think that most folks mash up the neeps and tatties together with the haggis to disguise the flavor...with lotsa brown sauce... btw...with the FiL in Glasgeh we were usually past out drunk on Grouse at home when the new year came in...freeze ass cold down Princes Square...
January 1, 201214 yr Grouse for the bells? Reminds me of a joke - I'll not bore you with the whole joke, I'm sure you've all heard it before - it ends "... 'No,' said Mr Haig, it wouldn't do to appear before the licensing magistrate smelling of strong drink'". SC
January 1, 201214 yr Steak pie is traditional fodder for our troops. Eaten with a big plate of mashed spuds while listening to the old firm game on the wireless. I think its safe to post here that I'd prefer a bit of shortbread...slightly burnt at the edges and rolled in sugar. Goes well with a tiny drop of single malt....

I'd hoovered up all the shortbread by Hogmanay. We managed to catch some fireworks over the bells behind the IKEA sign (I don't hold out a lot of confidence for this inserted image...) SC
