Thailand To Issue Passport For Ex-PM Thaksin Soon: FM

Featured Replies

Exactly.

They should have done this long ago, no country should deprive their citizens from their nationality , ID or passport cuz governments easily could use this as a political weapon , that's why i don't understand how so many countries call themselves democracies and still they have this kind of laws. :jap:

No... it must be very undemocratic to cancel the passports of convicted felons.

it doesn't matter if you have been convicted or not your government should have no authority to cancel your passport, even if you are convicted , if you are convicted they should prevent you from leaving the country, an if you still can run away then they should use Interpol or something , but they should not touch you citizenship at all and i say this not cuz i support Thaksin i say it just cuz is my view and in particular case of K. Thaksin there is a lot of political motivated s... involved :)

The 2 year prison sentence was designed to get Thaksin to flee. He was not allowed a right of appeal by the coup apponted court.

Thaksin had already fled before sentencing.

He was allowed to appeal, even though he wasn't here. His own lawyer chose not to appeal within the same allotted 30 days extended to all convicted criminals.

The Supreme Court was not appointed by the coup.

.

3 questions need to be answered.

In the land deal Thaksin's wife Potjaman was forced to sell back the land. She received 5% interest for each year she had owned the land. Property prices in Bangkok had risen by many more multiples as elsewhere in the world.

Who now owns that land?

In the assets sezure

£1 billion was seized of Thaksin's assets.

Who received this money?

The 2 year prison sentence was designed to get Thaksin to flee. He was not allowed a right of appeal by the coup apponted court.

The assets were then seized in his absence. The intended purpose to cripple the grassroots opposition.

As regards the passport.

No international warrant was ever issued for Thaksin's arrest. Despite the claims of the democrats they never sought an arrest warrant with interpol.

So they cancelled his passport.

We know from Wikileak that leader of the Privy Council Prem told John, the american ambassador, that should Thaksin return there is a $10000 contract out on his life.

Who has paid for this contract?

I think all the actors in this will eventually be unmasked.

Example: Remember Army commander Colonel Wanchai Paungkhumsa, the colonel who besieged the Krue Sae mosque and then killed all the insurgents.

Krue Sae Mosque Incident (from Wikipedia)

Main article: South Thailand insurgency On 28 April 2004, during a period of insurgency by Islamic nationalists in the southernmost provinces, 32 suspected guerrillas took shelter in the mosque. After a 7 hour stand-off with Thai military personnel, they were attacked and killed, along with about 80 others.[2] The attack was made in contradiction of orders from the Minister of Defence to end the confrontation peacefully, and has been the subject of an international inquiry, which concluded the military had used excessive force.

who was then implicated through his driver, arrested with the car full of explosives awaiting Thaksin's cavalcade.

Under the democrats the thai police revised their testimony to claim there were no detonators in the car so the explosives could not nor never be detonated.

The same colonel accused of complicity in the 2006 bombings in Bangkok. One eye witness in Bangkok saw grenade thrown from walkway bridge.

Thaksin supporters initially blamed. Then it was moslems from the south.

Next day in Chaing Mai caretaker in mosque saw man lob grenade into mosque injuring said caretaker. Police accused caretaker of blowing himself up with home-made bomb.

Moslem community were up in arms that a moslem would build bomb in a mosque.

To date no charges have been pressed . Unsolved bombings as are the bombings last year during the redshirt protesta at the democracy monument which were used as a pretext for the resulting state of emergency and lethal use of force.

Those 3 questions have already been answered... and the same answer to all....... frig off Farangs , nothing to do with anyone NOT Thai...!

Nice collection of bit and pieces, some even related, some true, some definitively untrue, some just side tracking.

The OP is on 'Thailand to issue passport for ex-PM soon" which should be "Foreign Minister at it again". This government is not about only one person!

BTW flooding is not even over yet, some still have a meter of water in (front of) their house. Although flooding is not a direct concern of the Foreign Ministry, how about restoring confidence in Thailand, rather than work for 'Thaksin thinks, Pheu Thai acts' <_<

If there was ever any doubt in anyone's mind that some people in Thailand are treated (in legal matters) a whole lot differently than others, than this silly incident should dispel any illusions.

Thai justice had never been objective, and this additional kissing of T's assets - just adds to the absurdity of Thai justice in the world's perspective.

How long before the name from Thailand to Thaksinland?

I like "Shingapore" better. Too bad it won't come with the economic benefits.

:giggle::Dave::intheclub:

O'course he's going to get his passport back! When your sis's boss of the party why wouldn't you get a free pass back in?!!!

Just because it says "BOSS" on the business card doesn't necessarily mean that you are the one who is charge.

i'll go back to my reading , an excellent book: "Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov

Something in the Harry Potter range may be more to your taste in fiction.

Good to hear, the sentence on "conflict of interest" charges were politically motivated anyhow. People in need of a harsh sentence are Abhisit and above all mister Suthep and Prayuth for ordering the mass murder of innocent people.

You mean that Thaksin didn't order the mass murder of innocent people?

Think drug war in Thailand in 2005 when over 2,500 people, a lot of them innocent died and who was the PM then?

It's OK if Thaksin does it.

The Red Shirts are positively, adamantly against double standards; they want ONE standard for Thaksin (and his minions) and ONE completely separated standard for everyone else.

Thaksin to receive new Thai passport as New Year gift: Surapong

The Nation

30171116-01_big.jpg

The Thai government will soon re-issue a passport for fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra as a New Year's gift, the foreign Minister said Friday.

"When Thaksin's passport was revoked, there was no order from the courts or the police to seize it," Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul told reporters.

"I will therefore use my authority and proceed legally under the regulations of the ministry to issue a new passport to ex-premier Thaksin," he said.

"We are checking more details but it will be very soon. It will be a normal Thai passport. Let us make a normal passport first. It doesn't have to be a diplomat passport."

Asked by reporters whether the process would be completed before the end of this year, Surapong said he expected it to be soon. "It would be excellent if it could be a New Year gift for Thaksin," he said.

Surapong is confident that the move will not be opposed by any group, adding that giving the ex premier a passport would be in accordance with the law. "Issuing a passport is under the jurisdiction of the ministry and within the power of the foreign minister," he said.

Thaksin, brother of current Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was stripped of his ordinary passport during Abhisit Vejjajiva government after fleeing a conviction of two years in prison for corruption and abuse of power.

However, he has been granted citizenship by some countries including Montenegro, which allows him to travel internationally.

to add:

before the land was sold, restrictions were put on the land (height of buildings).

After it was sold to his wife these restrictions were lifted.

Surely also a coincident, one of many.

He positively encouraged and incentivised the officers involved to bump up their numbers by rewarding them and punishing those that didn't hit his set targets in this "human" coconut shy!!!!!

It's generally accepted that 1,400 out of the 2,500 killings were innocent bystanders but it SURE DID gain a lot of promotions and pleased Thaksin in his egotistical one-man crusade!!!.

Isn't it illegal to hold Thai and foreign passports? He will have to decide which country he really calls home.

Hey, Montenegro (the current passport supplier) only ranks #66 on the corruption scale (vs. Thailand #80). So yes, getting a passport from there must have been a - uhmmm - difficult task.

Quick whip around anyone?

That is not much of a comment, try again ...

now lets wait and see what the 'hidden' amnesty will show us in a couple of days.

Even more grist for the mill. Oh well.

The government has their priorities sorted.

.

Yes, and their only priority. PTP was formed to bring back Khun T. The talk about working for all Thais was only bull_hit.

So was the talk about reconciliaton, end of story.

It is not illegal to have two passports or to hold dual citizenship. My wife is a Thai citizen and an American citizen and uses both passports when traveling between Thailand and the US.
