True Adsl - Ip Change

Featured Replies

I have no idea how often the address range changes, since that's for the engineers to decide. However, since True imposes a 24-hour limit on any continuous ADSL connection, you will have any IP address for only 24 hours maximum. And because of the way True's DHCP servers operate, it's very unlikely you'll get the same address the next time you connect.

SME and business users have the same limitation. Only corporate users who ask for fixed IPs are different.

Mine change usually every 24 hours. Sometimes sooner, but most of the time exactly after 24 hours.

What are you trying to do, which requires you to know how often the IP changes? If you are trying to set-up a local website server or a virtual network you might want to consider setting up a Dynamic DNS. I have set one up for my office network to allow connections from some remote locations and it has worked quite well. I use a paid service for ours but there are some free DDNS sites out there. Some info on DDNS can be found here http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/domainn.../bldef_ddns.htm

Absolutly.

You can find a free service at :

www.no-ip.com

Very easy to set up. And on your PC, you download a small piece of software that will update your local True IP address within their own DNS.

So you can have all the time a proper "link" between

http://YourServer.no-ip.info for instance and your local PC.
