webfact
Policeman nabbed for shooting motorists The Nation Police arrested a suspended police officer for allegedly shooting and wounding many motorists on Ratchadapisek Road on December 23. Police Lance Corporal Thirayu Phetmeekha, 28, was nabbed in his home town in Songkhla province, the media were told yesterday. He has allegedly confessed that he got drunk after attending a wedding party in Bangkok's Huai Khwang district, and that after quarrelling with a friend there, he tried to chase and shoot him down. However, he said, he could not find his friend and instead shot at other vehicles in anger. Records show that Thirayu was prosecuted for attempted murder and drug abuse in 2008. He has been suspended and faces termination. Meanwhile, the Criminal Court yesterday approved an arrest warrant against a man who allegedly broke into a branch of Kasikornbank opposite Robinson Department Store on Ratchadaphisek Road on Wednesday. Police said security cameras captured footage of a man robbing the bank and that they would compare the images with those of other criminals to identify the suspect. As for the gold-shop burglary on Thursday during which one of the robbers was shot dead while the other fled, police said yesterday that they were in the process of checking the dead man's fingerprints, which would help them with the identification. Also, they said that once the dead man had been identified it might be easier to name the other man. -- The Nation 2011-12-

Beetlejuice
Ahhh, come on now, give the man a break. OK, you decide to kill your friend and he runs away and then you have a pop at complete strangers instead. So what`s wrong in that? What`s happening with the Thai police lately? Recently a cop gunned down and killed six of his colleges and now this. Have they all gone stark raving mad? Luckily he didn`t kill any farangs, otherwise it woud have been another 14 suicides to add to the police files.

EyesWideOpen
The litany of bad news regarding police goes on and on and on......Loved the rationale, gets mad at a women and then starts popping motorists...Clearly this shows that the vetting process for a policeman is seriously flawed. Oh wait, there is no vetting process, they have to buy their job with borrowed money. Does anyone know the amount they have to pay? Just curious. Will be interesting to see how the upcountry Thai apologists try to spin this latest police misadventure. OzMick
He was prosecuted for attempted murder and drug abuse in 2008....... and as he is suspended and faces termination, I infer that he was found guilty. The question is, "Is that the court imposed penalty?" or a police regulation. Why is a dangerous criminal attending a wedding with his hand-gun when he should be in a nice warm cell? guzzi850m2
What does it take to get fired? The cop up here in Pai who shot down 2 tourists had to kill his wife. Yes another mad man in uniform, I think he got 5 years for clubbing his wife to death because he admitted the crime, but the 2 tourists?? Did he get any extra time for that? Life without parole sounds about right to me. The OP ex police man seems to be same type, soooo angry at everything, a walking time bomb but I think he is done for, so bye bye to him and enjoy the prison. WarpSpeed
Like I said in the other thread about the cop that shot and killed several of his fellow police and then himself is there any vetting of police here? And to further that, is there any follow up psychiatry to determine how well one is dealing with the job stresses.. Someone mentioned a college degree being required but those are as easy as buying ice cream here so really doesn't have any bearing on mental health or actual qualifications.. Anything like most of the civilized world is, dam_n near takes an act of parliament with the strength of police unions. Take Toronto for instance and high level cops shaking down business men for protection...........Oh shucks, they got off so must have been innocent Duh

If he was jailed for the murder of Leo del Pinto and the attempted assassination of Carly Reisig as he should have been, then he wouldn't have been able to savagely beat his wife to death. The Thai Police have her blood on their hands too. Hope you're proud boys.
TallGuyJohninBKK
The crummy report from The Nation says the guy was "prosecuted" for attempted murder and drug abuse... It doesn't say he was convicted...and it doesn't say he was acquitted... I wonder why... If he had been convicted back in 2008 for attempted murder and drug abuse, would he be walking around now in 2011 free, drunk and shooting at people? One wouldn't think so... Or, perhaps given that the guy has now gone totally bonkers, they don't want to admit that they had him and let him off back in 2008. Now that would be a bit messy to explain, and not look so good for the authorities...now would it? Either way, this guy gives a totally new meaning to the phrase, "To Protect and Serve." Oberkommando
anyone has information on the Police who killed the couple farangs in Kanchanaburi some time ago? I heard he was acquitted and is in service again waiting for another pair of victims... Somchai Wisetsingh who shot Adam Lloyd and Vanessa Arscott in Kanchanaburi. He was eventually convicted after his colleagues assisted in his escape to Burma, his 'arranged' return and his confession which changed to a not-guilty plea in court and sentenced to two life sentences. However posters here and elsewhere maintain he still has not served a day in prison and can still be seen in and around Kanchanaburi. How true this is, I don't personally know but I sure wouldn't be surprised.
