Boxer 250 is not available new since spring 2011, but maybe you find a used one. Or a new bike that was standing long time at the dealer.

Officially it is said, that the Boxer 150 (Bulldog) is available. Don't know if this is true. Not easy to deal with Tiger if you do not contact one of their bosses directly.

Reliability? Hm, i can only say that the bike is running once you get it running. Than it runs untill it stops running and than you have to find out why it stops. And so on. But you can learn a lot about mechanics of simple bikes if you are interested in this. I am only kidding. There is a guy who has driven more than 80.000km with his Boxer 250. And this without a single breakdown or modification. Its pure magic wink.png

Had mine for over a year. Fantastic bike. Had a few minor problems to begin with, all sorted and now I've got one of the best all round bikes available in Thailand - now that the factory issues have been sorted.

You'll struggle to find one though, they're not in production and they sold less than 80 (going by my frame number) so few 2nd hand ones changing hands. Check the Tiger forum for more info (search google for Tiger motorbikes forum Thailand).

In February, Tiger will be releasing new models. I don't know what yet, but currently they have no 250cc offerings so something could be in the pipeline.

Telling tales again Wantan.. Charlie has indeed done some minor mods to his bike and has had the occasional breakdown.. all well documented.

But you are right in saying that he has done more than 80,000km's in the few years that he has had his bike.

Op the http://www.tigersachsclub.com/Forum/ has lots of info.

Wantan is correct that at the moment there are no new ones being sold. There are rumours of new models coming out. The Tiger 250rs is no speed machine but it is a good low tech, lower speed touring machine. If you get one do check it over carefully as you would do any 2nd hand bike.

Yep, i was telling your favorite tale. But i put a winking smiley behind it. Some people sure understand what this means.

In fact the Boxer i was talking about has been sent back to the Tiger factory in BKK many times, for repairs and service. Only the owner knows how often and why.

PS:

I own a Boxer myself and i like it.

yes. you are correct. Charlie has his boxer serviced at the factory. so with 80.000km's it would have been back there a few times. any way lets not beat this one into the ground. Charlie is very happy with his bike. and now happily you state you are happy with yours. so all good.

The truth is that the Tiger Boxer 250 RS is a very solid design, both in engine and complete built, If Tiger is going to introduce a new 250cc motorcycle, I hope they selected the Boxer 250 RS as the basis to do so, as it's a real bulletproof machine.

Of course it's a complete different story if we talk about the Tiger X-Road 250, which is a bike assembled in Thailand by parts sourced in China (and this are parts who didn't pass Sachs QC - so they maybe be of good quality or not – are bought from suppliers who also sometimes supply Sachs, and looking back on posts on this forum by previous owners of the Tiger X-Road 250 you can surely make up your own mind about the quality.)

Anyway, back to the Tiger Boxer 250 RS – it's an actual great machine for what you pay for it... It's mechanical simple, what is a good thing if you sometimes tour the country side, if you have problems with most of the modern motorcycle you would not be sure to check-in to a computer shop to connect the bike to a computer or visit the local motorcycle mechanic... What I say most rural mechanics love carburetors and CDI ignition, all that digital stuff is only slowly getting understand with probably some parts of the country never really going to get it....

And trust me all that digital stuff on small bike is currently not as reliable as the good old well developed carburetor and CDI ignition. The truth is that a carburetor set for one type of fuel is still more efficient than most fuel-injection systems by using that same fuel. In Thailand most of pumps now-a-day have Gasohol 91, if a carburetor is correctly tuned to do that you can beat it with fuel-injection.

My TIGER Boxer 250 was a good bike indeed. Torque, easy handling, comfortable and really good for touring. The issuses weren´t never in the engine, this is a very reliable motor. But there was some shit around. Tanktap, sidestand, case, carp. With less than 5k you can fix all these things in a good working standard. And He guys....What is motorbiking without doing any modifications on the horse?
