Has anyone experienced a black screen on their LG LCD TV?

I searched on google for this particular problem and the web forum noted that it

was basically a Capacitor problem (bulging capacitor) which feeds the power

source. The basic price for the kit' is around $17usd. in the USA.

I called the LG service center and they refused to sell me the capacitor kit for my

particular 32'' model citing that I have to bring it to a licensed contractor of appointee

to have my tv fixed. Well I told LG that my TV is out of warranty and it wasn't necessary to do

so as It is my problem thereafter, also I mentioned that I did take the TV to the contractor

and they told me that it will cost 3000 baht to repair along with other unnecessary

repairs as the contractor is the sole or only guy in town? (nonsense!)

Any Information on where to buy aftermarket Capacitors for TV's in Thailand will be very grateful!

Thanks.

If you can find out the contents of the kit (it's not necessarily just a capacitor or two, these PSUs often suffer from domino-effect) then a trip to NPE should net you the necessary parts. Quite a few on-line component outlets too.

I used to get repair kits from CPC in the UK when I was poor and fixing my own electronics, they may have the necessary repair kit for your model (assuming they still exist of course).

Do you have the equipment and skills required to replace what could be surface mount devices??

I have a Sony LCD TV which had a 'component breaking down' problem i.e the TV would work fine for about 30 min, but when heated up it would suddenly spike loudly and switch the TV off.

I suspected a capacitor in the power supply, but could not find anybody interested in fixing it. So I went to the Sony service shop and they fixed it for just short of 3,000 baht.

Service OK but I was surprised that they will only guarantee the repair for 90 days.

Basically the screen darkens on and off - a very common symptom as pointed out in the many web forums.

But of course, there always may be more to this. What ticks me off is that the contractor is the only guy

in town (upcountry) and also the next city so he can really monopolize in his work.

I'll try to piece the components together. Thanks.

Good to know what your actual work repair cost. Thanks!

On the same subject of electronic parts guarantee, my treadmill croaked (I bought for 42,900baht), problem with the circuit board anyhow

they can't even find a part for it... as well as if they mixed it, they would only guarantee for 30 days.

appears that I have been having great pleasure here in Thailand over my electronic toys.
