Russian plane carrying 44 people goes missing near Jakarta < br /> 2012-05-09 18:59:32 GMT+7 (ICT) JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- A Russian-made Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft disappeared near a mountain south of the Indonesian capital of Jakarta on Wednesday while carrying out a demonstration flight, officials said. The fate of the aircraft remains unknown.The Superjet 100 aircraft had departed Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta at around 2.20 p.m. local time and was expected to return about an hour later. But at around 3.30 p.m. local time, while near Mount Salak in West Java, the aircraft disappeared from radar and all contact was lost.Emergency officials said the aircraft was carrying 44 passengers and crew members, including eight Russian citizens and 36 passengers from a number of countries. The aircraft is believed to have been carrying crew members, government officials, journalists and customers and stakeholders of the aircraft manufacturer.A search-and-rescue helicopter was sent to the region to search for the aircraft, and a crisis center has been established in Jakarta.The Sukhoi Superjet 100 was participating in Sukhoi's "Welcome Asia" roadshow to promote the new aircraft to airlines in a number of Asian countries. It began its tour last Thursday at the International Exhibition KADEX-2012 in Kazakhstan after which it flew to the Pakistani city of Karachi on Saturday. It then continued to Naypyidaw in Myanmar (Burma) on Monday before flying to Jakarta on Wednesday.Sukhoi previously said the aircraft, which is capable of carrying up to 98 passengers and is already flying for several airlines such as Aeroflot and Armavia, would be piloted during the "Welcome Asia" roadshow by chief test pilot Alexander Yablontsev and his co-pilot Alexander Kochetkov. tvn.png

Search continues for Sukhoi crash victims

A rescue team found the remains of passengers of the ill-fated Sukhoi Superjet 100 near its crash site at Mt. Salak in Bogor, West Java, on Friday morning, which will be sent to the Dr. Sukanto National Police Hospital in East Jakarta for further identification on Saturday.

National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) chief Vice Marshal Daryatmo said that the team, which comprises Basarnas members, the Indonesian Military and the police, were preparing two makeshift helipads near the crash site to enable swift retrieval. He said the bodies were expected to arrive in Jakarta at 8 a.m.

“The team managed to retrieve human remains that we believe to have come from 12 bodies. All have been confirmed dead,”

Indonesia: Body bags containing the remains of people aboard a Russian jet that smashed into an Indonesian mountain arrived in Jakarta Saturday as Russian investigators landed to join the probe.

Rescuers said the bodies of those who perished when Sukhoi's new Superjet 100 hit Mount Salak in western Java on Wednesday, killing all on board, were badly dismembered.

Officials said the remains of the victims found so far had been placed in 16 body bags. Two had already arrived at a Jakarta hospital for identification with four more on the way.

This is a real tragedy.

Just to add.

The whole company will be davastated.

All the effort ploughed into it being wiped out...........if only a conclusion can be found.

it is a tragedy for all of Indonesia/west Java...I lived not far from there in Ciputat just outside the Jakarta city limits and it's a nice area around Bogor...RIP for all those that died...and the place won't ever be the same...
