Deposit Old Batteries, Computers, Etc

Featured Replies

I am already tired of hearing my Thai friends telling me to throw batteries, mobiles, computers, and so on. I tried to explain them why is not ok to do but they already know the effects; they just sound like the people in TV saying TiT LOL

So, after failing to convince them I better start taking care of this kind of stuff myself. Where I can bring used batteries and computers near Chid Lom or Phra Ram 9? Any other areas should be ok too.

PS: It is a real shame they don't care about this while they still have unpolluted rivers :-(

If there are any universities near you you might give them a try. I know at Chiang Mai university there are recycle bins for batteries.

I have trouble finding places to throw regular trash out. I'd simply be happy if there were regular trash bins located in public places.

Unpolluted rivers? Which ones would those be?

LOL, probably not in Bangkok. But water looks quite fine when you go to the countryside. Anyway, in my country there are no fish alive in the rivers, the few left have mutations, ... So there is still hope here :-P

Well, yesterday I went to Central Plaza shopping mall, just in front of Phra Ram 9 MRT and Fortune Town mall. I entered using the entrance from MRT station and on the door there are 3 bins for recycling: 1 for bottles, 1 for organic and 1 for E-waste. Not sure I can put a whole computer inside but should be good enough for batteries and small electronic stuff :-)

This may not help in Bangkok but in Chiangrai the ampur has shelves and bins at the enterance for people to leave hazardous waste. Maybe they do the same in Bangkok?

@harry, that looks like the proper way. I need to check if they actually do the same here ;-)

For old computers and related IT items you might consider donating them to Human Development Foundation, a charity that supports:

orphanages, slum pre-schools, an AIDS hospice, and housing and home repairs for the indigent etc. Vide their website: mercycentre.org

They take other household goods too, but in the case of computers they have a team which re-uses old parts and sells on the repaired and usable computers, or uses them in schools etc.

It based in Klong Toei, but they will pick up. Check the website or give them a call: 0-2671 5313. (It's run by Father Joe Maier.)
