Phuket Fears As News Of Another Stabbing Emerges

Come to Samui instead! It's much safer then Phuket and as the only place in Thailand that doesn't have tuk-tuks!

Our taxi mafia and jet-ski mafia will wholeheartedly welcome you and your money on the island. There is that "island charm" where ever you go and even at times of power cuts you can gaze at the stars and moon across the coconut trees and feel it. And you don't need to pack a body bag for your holiday here! Even the motor bike accidents will most likely only hurt you and unless you fall into a really big gap in the road or meet with the run-away concrete truck you will survive that and grow stronger after. Here, they really only murder foreigners who live on the island long time and not the tourists. So, forget Phuket and enjoy Samui!

"Here, they really only murder foreigners who live on the island long time and not the tourists." - What is the average life expectancy of a foreigner living "on the island a long time?" Just how long, is a "long time" on Samui?

What is the usual mode of murder on Samui? Eg. thrown off balcony, drowning, hanging, poisoning etc.

Don't know about how long is long. I meant that tourists who just visit for a vacation are safer than foreigners who live here more or less permanently and are more likely to get involved in local affairs. Usual modes of operation are shootings, fatal bike accidents and "drowning" - presumably after a good bash-up. Balcony "went-through-railing" also happened but it was most likely an accident due to negligence. No consequence of course since "nobody wanted that to happen". There is no highrise here so "throwers" would not get far, and .. another reason to visit Samui :-)

This is an extremely serious problem that the Thai government had better take immediate, aggressive to extreme measures to solve. Since much of Thailand's economy is dependant on tourism, it is adviseable for the police to conduct major sting operations, preferably involving INTERPOL to have foreigners who appear to be tourists in the areas these crimes are occurring actually be heavily armed INTERPOL Agents. Once members of this criminal syndicate accost them and attempt to rob or attack them with any weapon, the Agents can arrest them at gunpoint if possible, or shoot the suspects to terminate their ability to harm them or evade arrest.

As a Federal Law Enforcement Agent from the United States, I know this is possible, as I have personally been involved in very similar operations both in the USA, as well as the Philippines and Mexico.

notime, I was being sarcatstic, but yes, I believe statistics would prove Samui a safer island for tourist and expats, when compared to Phuket. :) :)

What many people overlook is that the real criminals who have a great deal of blood on their hands are the police in Phuket. It is no secret. The position of Chief of Police is not earned it is bought. Also no secret! If you want to eliminate the problems in Phuket remove the police and work from there.

Thailand can improve the peace and safety of its society by just looking to their neighbors like Singapore for example. Crimes like these usually end with the death penalty. The bag-snatchers, in this case, who ended up killing the victim are hanged within a year or at most 2 years. That’s it. If they were into drugs in the first place which resulted in this crime, it would never have happened in Singapore. They would have been dingling at the end of a rope for drugs well before doing any drug related crimes. That’s it. Case closed.
