I'm getting increasingly irritated by TV posters who spend all their time pissing and moaning about the UK. They quote the Daily Mail on a regular basis, bang on about how immigrants are dragging the country down and bemoan the passing of some idyllic day when all was right with the world - a day that never really existed. When you investigate them a little more you find that they'll lived in Hua Hin for the past 10 years and the last time they visited the UK was a 2 day trip to get a visa from Hull. If they've got all this time to moan about how crap the place is why aren't they living here and suffering like the rest of us?

When I visit Thailand for my miserly 3 weeks hols (but 8 this year!) I forget about the UK as soon as the wheels leave the runway.

This isn't exclusively a UK thing, expats from a large country between Canada and Mexico can become obsessed with their former homeland's politics and general state of the country.

I'm not sure the cranky Poms get quite so upset when someone else criticizes their country though.
