Ricardo
"Why isn't " the overwhelming support for the red shirts" reflected in the numbers there, or here? Is it only seen through red glasses?" It is certainly reflected in the polls in Thailand and the red supporters in the U.S. are only less vocal because the yellow supporters control their livlihood. "Overwhelming support" a.k.a. 48.4% of the most-recent vote ? And "the red supporters in the U.S." are so oppressed, by the "yellow supporters who control their livlihood", that they can afford to pay $200-per-person for a buffet and the chance to 'Talk with Thaksin' ? Sorry, but No-Sale !
visionchaser45
"The vast majority of the population here are Issan Thai attracted by the higher wages, business opportunities and better living conditions." You had better check again because the "vast majority" of Thais on Samui are from south Thailand. "I'm sure that I get a broader perspective talking to them..." Jao wow Isaan bor? I'm sure you have many long and meaningful conversations with Isaan people on Samui. Come on, there is a lot of Isaan girls (อีสาน) both on on Samui as well on Phuket. There is a difference between "a lot" and "a vast majority." Anyone having "conversations" with Isaan girls on Samui or Phuket had better have paid for a long time GFE because ST girls are less inclined to engate in chit-chat about their political philosophy. I doubt the street food vendor or lottery ticket seller is likely to be too chatty either. Edited August 25, 2012 by visionchaser45

Ricardo
http://www.thaivisa....t-from-seminar/ Same same, or is there a big different? Yes, there's a difference, IMO. A handful of LAPD officers made sure, that Thaksin's convoy of three cars reached the venue safely, past groups of Red-Shirt supporters and anti-Thaksin protesters numbering a few hundred in total, however 200 Thai riot-control police were unable to achieve the same thing for Abhisit's vehicle, past a group of 70-100 Red-Shirts who blocked access to the venue. This may be due to a difference in style between the two police-forces. The junior LAPD officer had spoken beforehand to both sets of protesters, and agreed what would or wouldn't be permitted, he was on-the-scene to monitor the situation, and ensured that the protesters could make their protests without breaking the law or actually preventing the speaker from reaching their venue. A good example, of how things should be done in a democracy, defending the right to free-speech while also allowing private-individuals to reach their meetings, wouldn't you agree ?

Buchholz
Some red shirts, including leader Daranee Kritboonyalai, who is wanted in connection with the 2010 unrest and riots in Thailand, were seen nearby No Red Shirt Rally is complete without Thai Red Hair and elite fruitcake Daranee, who led the Red Shirts down Hollywood Boulevard. Step out into the traffic some more. Samak's Justice Minister and Currently Banned From Politics For Electoral Fraud Former People Power Party MP Sompong, along with Daranee again, after getting re-wigged into a Red, white, and blue number, on the Red USA stage in L.A. Asia Pacific News http://apacnews.net/news/?p=29461 Red Shirt Red Head Daranee filed a defamation lawsuit yesterday against a woman who shouted at her while she was having dinner at the Monument-To-The-Poor known as the exclusive Siam Paragon shopping complex on August 31. The former fugitive-and-criminally-indicted-herself Daranee submitted her suit to the Crime Suppression Division. Daranee said the woman's words and the finger-pointing at her caused people in the restaurant and passerby's to feel bad about Daranee and it damaged her reputation. Police have initiated an investigation to find out who the woman was. .

Strange that someone who dresses-up as Ronald McDonald's girlfriend, hasn't experienced this sort of thing, previously ? Still, it will keep the BiBs out of trouble, once they stop laughing & start the investigation.

Having said that it, doesn't look like a confrontation, more of a bit of haranguing from some loony yellow woman, pushing her face into a couple of people having a quiet coffee. Looks to me like Daranee handled it well in the face of rude provocation. Kind of undermines your general theme, somewhat.

What make the woman a "yellow woman"? What did she say to Daranee? With Daranee filing charges, is the confrontation deserving of the potential punishment of 2 years in prison for defamation? . The clip is hardly news trivia, it is on all of the Thai social networking sites with 99% of people in support of the woman, who incidentally was slagging Daranee off for comments she made about the King. There was no rude provocation from the woman, the provocation was in the comments from Daranee about the King. Seems most people in Thailand would like to see her locked up for what she has said.
