Hi Ron and Kevjohn, Talking about groups and me being a ex pro Musician. The Beatles were good musicians. But it was Lennon and McCartneys song writing abilty that made them. The main Liverpool bands of that era like the Searchers, Hollies etc were good musicians of around equal ability. Among the best lead singers were Billy J Kramer. Paul Jones, and Steve Ellis of the Love Affair.

I thought the Bee Gees were an excellent band with Robin Gibb a great lead singer, with a touch of Roy Orbison about him. But taking musical ability, vocal ability and great harmonies in to consideration, the best band of the lot were an American band called The Byrds, remember Mr Tambourine Man? They had four excellent lead singers.

As far as the Beatles go,Ringo wasn't a drummers rear end but a drummer I have a lot of time for is Brian Bennett of the Shadows even in the Shadows final tour concert in Cardiff 2004,he showed that he still had it. "http://www.youtube.com/embed/0AUDauqqN5s"

Yes Ron, Ringo was the weakest link in the Beatles as Paul McCartney was probably the most talented, as for the Byrds, Lead singer, lead guitarist Roger McGuinn was the most talented, with drummer Mick Clarke the weakest link. I saw Roger in a one man show in Glasgow a few years ago, what a talent.

Gene Pitney, brilliant. Ron, do something for me. Go on to Youtube and get Gene Pitney and George Jones singing Mocking Bird Hill. They recorded two albums together back in the sixties.
I've already put it up,it's post #3529 on page 142

Yes, I noticed that, I got the impression that you had never heard of George Jones, he was not as big as Jim Reeves or his ex wife Tammy Wynette in the UK, though I don't know about Australia, you are Australian aren't you?

Sorry Ron, but I did not like it at all, but his vocal ability was excellent.
No that's fine.As you would realize, not everyone likes the same things and with music I think a majority would like a particular tune for it's entertainment value not necessarily for it's musical excellence. With me ,I like many artists

but not everything they put out.Why I can even appreciate some of Willie Nelson's work.
