But it was Lennon and McCartneys song writing abilty that made them. The main Liverpool bands of that era like the Searchers, Hollies etc were good musicians of around equal ability. Among the best lead singers were Billy J Kramer. Paul Jones, and Steve Ellis of the Love Affair. I thought the Bee Gees were an excellent band with Robin Gibb a great lead singer, with a touch of Roy Orbison about him. But taking musical ability, vocal ability and great harmonies in to consideration, the best band of the lot were an American band called The Byrds, remember Mr Tambourine Man? They had four excellent lead singers. As far as the Beatles go,Ringo wasn't a drummers rear end but a drummer I have a lot of time for is Brian Bennett of the Shadows even in the Shadows final tour concert in Cardiff 2004,he showed that he still had it. "http://www.youtube.com/embed/0AUDauqqN5s" Yes Ron, Ringo was the weakest link in the Beatles as Paul McCartney was probably the most talented, as for the Byrds, Lead singer, lead guitarist Roger McGuinn was the most talented, with drummer Mick Clarke the weakest link.
