The presence of U.S.N serves to amplify tensions rather than promote stability. Yes, the U.S. positions its military as a deterrent against perceived threats from Iran, but it overlooks the broader implications of its action. Look at what happened in Lebanon in 1982. Hezbollah was formed partly in response to the U.S. military presence in Lebanon. Following the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, which was supported by the U.S., many Lebanese, particularly Shiites, felt marginalized and vulnerable. The presence of foreign troops, especially the U.S. Marines deployed to stabilize the situation, was viewed as an occupation. Does Lebanon not have the right to defend itself? Thank you for your laudation of the Primitivo variety of Italian red wines. I have currently seven different brands of Primitivo in my cellar where I live in northern Italy, of which three are from Puglia but, alas, none is a Polvanera 17. If the number 17 in the brand name is the vintage, that mekes it 2017, ideal to drink now. Did anthing come of the talk about reducing or abolishing import duty and/or exise tax on imported alcoholic beverages in Thailand to attract more high-spending tourists? At what price does the Polvanera 17 Primitivo currently sell in Thailand? Where can it be bought? -

The incident involves four St. Clair Shores residents flagged for submitting two ballots in the primary election on Aug. 6. According to Nessel, each person voted by absentee ballot, returned their ballot and then voted in person at their polling location on election day. In three of the four cases, voters signed an affidavit saying they had not received an absentee ballot despite completing and returning one, Nessel said. Election workers informed the voters that their absentee ballots had already been received but were allegedly instructed by assistant clerks to override the system and issue in-person ballots. ... I am angry after seeing videos of Israelis celebrating the death of the Hezbollah leader the other day. I am angry that Israel thinks it can do whatever it likes without the consequences other countries would have. I'm angry about all the Israeli propaganda and how some think Israelis don't want Netanyahu in power, when he in fact represents the psyche of the Israeli people. He's been Democratically elected for how many years? I'm angry at the Apartheid state in Israel and how they view Palestinians as lesser being, even animals as that senior Politician called them after Oct 7 last year. Israel is killing with impunity and it's obvious what their plan is. -

The mighty presence of the USN is present as a deterrent. In case you missed it, the US intercepted some Iranian missiles this week. USS Bulkeley (DDG-84) and USS Cole (DDG-67) fired about a dozen interceptors at Iranian missiles fired at Israel, the Pentagon said last Tuesday. The two destroyers are independently deployed and are in the Eastern Mediterranean. USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72) is operating in the Gulf of Oman. USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) will be on station in the the Eastern Mediterranean. The sad reality is that aside from the tacit support of the UK and indirect support of France, the USA stands alone in protecting the west from Iranian belligerence. Much of the western world cowers in fear. They may have a different position if Iran shuts down oil transport in the Gulf, and oil refineries in the region. I
