aussiebebe Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Hi everyone, I want to make window plugs which are boards you put over your windows to reduce sound. I need to know where to buy Mass Loaded Vinyl in Thailand and can't find suppliers using either Google of the Yellow pages, even with my wife searching in Thai. I was reading this website about MLV and it's quite readily available in the US for upwards of $1.13 per Sq. Ft, but the high mass of 1lb per Sq. Ft. means I can't economically ship it to Thailand. If anyone has an address of a company or telephone number it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
bjnash888 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Can't help you with where to buy in Thailand, it's also made in China and they call MLV "Flexible Noise Barrier". Don't know if you'll have any better luck so an alternative might be very heavy felt layered with something between that won't give off odor like asphalt will. (That's why not to use DynaMat or similar). You could post your question on our soundproofing Forum: as we have folks from all over the world and this question may have been answered!. MLV PVC sheeting is loaded hot with silica sand to give it weight. That weight and mass gives it the ability to effectively block sound. If you can't find any of this stuff, I'm sure you can find lead sheet. 1/32" thick is equal to 1/4" of MLV. It's not toxic unless you eat it! MAke sure your window is well sealed against sound leaks. Another alternative is at win dot alturl. You can order those parts from us and get your clear plastic sheet locally. See Any other direct questions, we answer them all at see attachment for more links! Good Luck! BJNASH Soundproofing dot org (Been many years since I was in SE Asia!) thai.txt
aussiebebe Posted October 7, 2012 Author Posted October 7, 2012 Thanks for your reply, there are no soundproofing companies I can find in Thailand to buy MLV from. I started by getting quote on double-glazed windows but they are hideously expensive so started looking for a solution. I thought about using perspex as an internal window, that too is hard to find, I approached a few sign shops but they didn't sell thick sheets. It's hard to find stuff, so I thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone knew anything.
