New Oven Installation....

Featured Replies

When I built our house, I made sure we had an additional, outside Thai kitchen...I also roughed out a place for a future oven. The future is finally now....I would like to have an additional enclosure made (relatively cheap to get that made here...) for the oven, to insure the ants, spiders and lizards don't take refuge in the accessible areas. I noticed over the past 3 years that the area set aside for said oven became home to numerous of the above mentioned critters. I actually don't mind them....but I don't want to fire up the oven to use it and start baking spiders, ants, lizards and such. They can't get into the actually oven (I hope), but could very well be on top of it inside where it would be fitted. It would be a sheet metal box enclosure with the oven inside it. Does anyone see any problems with this design? The whole idea of an oven is to concentrate the heat in an enclosure, but should I be concerned about the exterior areas of the oven itself heating up (inside the enclosure area)? Thanks for any input....ett

Are you installing a commercially avaiable oven or one of your design? I installed one 12 years ago, comercially available, double insulated with spit, timer lights etc. After about a year the thing jkept blowing the breaker. Removed it and found that the rats had infiltrated the oven and ant all of the insultion and insulation on the wiring. Since then I've had to replace wiring and insutaltion numerous times even though I can not see haow the things are getting in! Finally gave up! Don't use the spit or light anymore and light it with a match. Never roasted a rat that I know of.
