THAIPHUKET Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 I use the HTC Desire One with qwerty, I make less mistakes than with the touch screen. However, the Qwerty keys are rather tough to push, no good feeling. Perhaps the Samsung Captive Glide is a better option, any views on that? Available where? What is your preference, even with predictive, self-correction apps, with what are you more at ease when typing longer mails? BTW: battery life is too short on the HTC, carrying always second battery with me. Would you know what external charger fits and where to get?
Digitalbanana Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I find the latest Samsungs touch screens with continuous input (their version of Swype keypad) to be far smoother and faster than any physical keyboard ... and far better than anything HTC came out with. YMMV.
THAIPHUKET Posted December 27, 2012 Author Posted December 27, 2012 Helpful hint. On a bigger issue= Does the use of predictive typing not lead to a much reduced form of expression? Simply because over time, one tends to use the suggested words instead of using your brain for more accurate or synonym expressions? Newspeak ? I am new to this but I found that the predictive program will often suggest 3 options of words; the decision between the 3 is an interruption/ delay of my thought process, unwelcome so.

I normally know what word I'm trying to type, so being able to click it when it appears after a few keystrokes makes typing much quicker. I don't see how it changes what you are going to type.
Digitalbanana Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 When I usec continuous input (swipe type) I never even look at the suggested words, and nearly always the words come out as I intended because the keyboard follows my fingers spelling word as I intended.
Gary A Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I'm certainly not a typist and hate the small touch screen keys. I now use the "Big Buttons Keyboard Standard". It's kind of a bastard qwerty but makes it much easier for me to type accurately. If you rotate the screen, it goes into the standard qwerty keyboard.
Khun Jean Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I use this: http://gkos.com/gkos/android/index.html Takes about a few minutes to figure out how it works and a few hours to get really fast.
raro Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I'm using SwiftKey 3, excellent predictive text, learns from former messages so that the predictions become more and more your usual vocabulary. Example : I type "Soi" and the next suggested words are "Chayapruek" and "Chayapoomwitti", two streets in Pattaya that I must have typed after "Soi" for a couple of times.
