Can not see it being any worse then the smokers that they tolerate.

I share your dislike for smoking in restaurants, but as the tables are outdoors there, I think that allowing smoking is normal and expected in Pattaya. That place is no worse than other places with outdoor tables in that regard.

Can you please be more specific regarding location on the South Rd.?

He posted about that place before on this thread. I asked him for the location before on this thread. So far, not a word. As far as I'm concerned, if people don't know where it is and the news provider won't say where it is, it might as well not exist. Even a rough idea of where it is would be better than nothing. Just saying it's somewhere on Pattaya Tai is too rough. It's a long road with a plethora of small businesses. BTW -- can't find that name on google either.

I don't think that place is there anymore.

Anyway, I think they were mostly about selling the Thai-ified popular  with Thais Viet dish -- nam neung.

They are still there; yesterday; as part of a French hotel. I would post a photo but I forgot to take my phone out yesterday. I do remember they open at noon.

Thanks for that. But appears to be another one of those nam neung focused Viet food tailored to Thai tastes joints. Seems like almost everything has that bologna type sausage meat which I hate. I don't see any Pho or Bun Cha bowls. But does seem worth at least checking out.

They have Pho on the weekends if I recall correctly. They've got some interesting stuff, but I haven't explored it enough.

Oh, good to hear. But I remain skeptical. I've never had a Pho broth in Pattaya that is anything close to a real Pho broth.

Normal ?

Apart from being illegal, I think it says a lot of how much the owners care what their food tastes like.

Oh please. I'm not even aware of a restaurant in town with outdoor tables that would stop people from smoking in the outdoor tables. That doesn't mean it's good. But it is normal here.

Wrong, as per The Non-Smokers Health Protection Act, B.E. 2535

Interesting tidbit but not only don't I see any police enforcement for indoor restaurant smoking, I would be totally shocked to see any enforcement for OUTDOOR restaurant smoking.

It's just a hazard of eating out here.

I take that into consideration in choosing where to eat, but if I otherwise like the food and prices, smoking isn't going to stop me (or most people).

NIKA Cafe

Russian, Ukrainian, and Italian

Jomtien

tripadvisor:

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293919-d13148703-Reviews-NIKA_cafe-Pattaya_Chonburi_Province.html

Marked on Map:

http://www.expat-condos.com/jomtien-beach-condominium-map.html

At the Jomtien Beach Condominium, close to the Beach road side, adjacent to the better known St. Petersburg Restaurant (also Russian of course) which was previously "reviewed" here.

This is a nice little find. I posted about the St. Petersburg before but this is about their adjacent neighbor.

The picture menu with English makes this place fully accessible to Anglos. The food I've sampled is quite decent and prices fair as well. Probably there is a benefit to the customer of major competition next door.

So far I've tried mostly the Russian/Ukrainian side of the menu. Meat stuffed pancakes 120, borscht 100, sorrel soup 120, giant potato pancake with meat and mushrooms in a cream sauce 200.

I also tried an Italian dish which was an eggplant and cheese bake for 120. Not actually eggplant parm but quite pleasant. Their Italian menu includes lots of pasta and pizza choices including an unusual calzone with chicken 280.

To drink you might want to try their Kvass (like a home brewed Russian style coca cola made from bread) served in a choice of sizes.

This place won't be on Michelin's radar, but for me their standout dish so far which they label as their house specialty is their potato pancake with the cream sauce side thing.

The potato pancake was Russian style and very delicious. Definitely a different style than Swiss Rosti (which I'm not knocking, just pointing out they aren't the same). The side cream thing was fantastic. The portion of cream sauce was absurdly large and I only ate about a quarter of it. My only complaint is that I wish there was more meat and mushroom pieces in it. I wonder do Russians really eat all that sauce? Doesn't matter, eating less of it you still get to enjoy the wonderful flavor. I think this dish would appeal to most people but perhaps especially to Swiss people as they can compare to Rosti main course dishes and Americans as there is some similarity to creamed chipped beef breakfast but with an unusually good cream sauce.

Disappointed to see that Easy Health had closed after only a few months, but today noticed that it has only changed location, and is open on the other (west) side of Third Road, in a smaller venue.  No change in the interesting menu.  It's now directly across from Buffalo Bar.

I went to the market on Soi Buakhao looking for the spanish/thai woman selling tacos and couldn't find a taco stand.  Is it gone, or else can someone clarify where it is please?
First of all it's the everyday night market not the South Pattaya one.

Yeah that's where I went.  There is a Tony's Gym on the second floor.  Where is it relative to Tony's please?  Mixed among the food stalls in the market, in the roofed area directly across from Tony's?

Coming to a developing country expecting 1st world policing of smokers in outdoor restaurants is astounding. Give it 20 years or so considering most 1st world countries only got really serious about within the last 15 years

Enter from Buakow. It will be one of the front stalls to the left ground level. They aren't always open.
