Are Micro Sims Available At 7-11?

Featured Replies

I'll be bringing a Nexus 4 into Thailand during my next trip. It takes a micro-SIM. During past trips, I just purchase a SIM card in 7-11. I don't ever recall them asking if I wanted a micro SIM or not.

Does 7-11 sell them? If not, I highly suspect any mobile shop will either sell them or sell the full size and have a trimmer available.

I have seen them there.

They should be clearly marked as Microsim.

True do a True H-Netsim which is a perforated micro-sim within a normal sim, just snap out the microsim if that is what you need.

Failing that any mobile phone shop has a cutting tool to convert a normal sim to a microsim.

I made the mistake of buying the wrong sim, and I found it quite easy to convert it to microsim by using a stanley knife.

I tried a couple of 7-11 outlets without success. If you cut out a sim, do try to be as precise as possible, otherwise you have a network failure when you jolt or shock the device.

Yes, bought a DTAC one at the 7-11 on the corner of Soi 20 Sukhumvit. The one I bought is both a micro and the regular one. Looks like a regular one in the card but comes apart in two different sizes.

Consider checking at the DTAC, AIS & TRUE kiosks at the airport arrivals hall.

Those SIM cutters (that look a bit like a stapler) are cheap and common nowadays so you could just buy one. They work pretty well too and then you still have the option of converting back to a regular SIM.

Otherwise I would imagine any mobile shop/kiosk will cut it for you if you ask nicely.

All of the major service providers have moved to mini-SIMs with an embedded uSIM which can be punched out - you may even be able to use it as a carrier?

However I think it is impossible to say if each an every one of the twenty-two million 7-11's here, along with the seventy-three million mobile phone shops, have rotated their stock. The best bet may be to go to Service Provider's main shop in a shopping mall and purchase the SIM there? Or as already mentioned, DTAC, AIS and TrueMove all operate store-fronts on level 2, outside Customs (nearish doors 6-8) where you can probably get a uSIM easily enough.

I recently got a TrueMove H SIM, which had the uSIM perforated, but there was no indication of this on the outside of the package. I also got a perforated SIM/uSIM from DTAC last year when I ported in from AIS.

I didn't know the make mini-SIM with cut out micro-SIMs. That's a really good idea.

Usually, I like to just rush out of the airport. After waiting at immigration, then for my baggage, I'm ready to start my vacation.

I'll try to remember to stop and get my card first instead of my usual visit to 7-11 after checking into my hotel.

Does it cost any more in the airport versus 7-11? I remember once when I flew into Chiang Mai, they were handing out SIM cards for free.

Don't remember which carrier I prefer, DTAC or AIS. I'll have to research their 3g (4g in Thailand yet?) coverage maps.
