I just couldn't get my PC to see my Note... I wanted to transfer some photos.

So I did a chat with Samsung, actually the person was in the US. Nothing she suggested would make it connect so we gave up. I then searched the internet again and found the following suggestion as someone else had the same problem in the past. It worked for me also.

Reply was .................

Are you using a micro SD card?

If yes, try this:

1) turn off your phone

2) remove the SD card

3) turn your phone back on

4) from your galaxy 2, go to setting, more..., USB utilites, connect storage to PC

5) connect USB cable, click "turn on USB storage"

your PC should now find your phone.

Now, turn your phone off again, re-insert the micro SD card and follow from step 3 above.

It looks as though the problem was associated with having extra memory installed. Just thought that this info may be useful to someone in the future.

When you plug it it, it should install drivers. Then in your notifications you should see a USB icon, and the option to turn it on and off.

What OS are you using on your computer?

The problem was on my desktop ... Win7 installed 64bit. I did a Samsung Chat for quite a while and couldn't connect ... then I did as above and managed to transfer my files.

Now I have just tried on my laptop ... Win7 32bit and MTP connected and I could see the phone on the computer. So I then tried the same on the desktop ... MTP connected BUT I couldn't see the phone. Idears please

I would run Windows Update and make sure you have all the .NET Framework crap.

The I would de-install KiES, and any associated Samsung USB drivers.

Then I would find, download and install the Samsung USB Drivers for your phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1755001

Re-booting at each step.

Then using a known good cable and a known good USB port (use one on the back of the PC which is part of the MB), plug the phone in. Windows should install the drivers you've already installed.

90% of the time this works, but I've run in to some instances, esp. with Win XP, where it can be very challenging to get it working.

My computer wouldn't recognize my Galaxy S3 either. I deleted Kies which is useless for a rooted phone anyways, then downloaded the proper drivers for my phone. I can now plug in the USB port and access both the phone and my phone's external memory card from "My computer".

I had the same problem on my S3. The Samsung Technicians didn't have a clue.

By chance, I tried it on another of my PCs, both had the same windows 7 OS - however the second one loaded and recognised it and displayed it right away.

Now I just had to find what one had which the other didn't.

The answer was easy..........

One had windows 7 and would not recognise my phone

The other had windows 7 WITH SP1 and worked perfectly

There was the answer !
