kikoman Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Thank you for the information, I always drink a lot of water, ask for an isle seat and by a exit door seat. I have been on wafarin for 30 years for A-fib, but I never heard of flight socks which I will look around for some. Thank you again for the valuable information! Cheers: 1
David48 Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 Just a wee bump because one of the members here has suffered a DVT recently, so I hope my story can remind you how easy this serious medical condition can be avoided on flights. Cheers David48 2
sirineou Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I echo everyone's sentiment by also wishing David a speedy recovery, Excellent thread , with plenty of good advice, I fly from the US to Thailand at least once a year , a 19 to 22 hr flight depending on connecting flight times with usually a 16 hr first flight leg, and I will admit that I knew very little about the dangers of sitting still for such long time and about the existence of flight socks This thread had changed all that and I will certainly purchase a pair of these socks for my next flight, especially since I was recently diagnosed with a congenital heart condition. Thank you David this thread has being a great public service in the best tradition of TV. I wonder what else I dont know that I should? the longer I live the more I find out that I am not as smart as I always thought PS: I looked for an "embarrassed" smiley on TV but there wasn't one, but there was one labeled "Dave" what's up with That ? LOL 1
David48 Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 ^^ Because sirineou, you are a mate from the Building Forum. 2nd last of the smilies ... OH ... just got lucky with the 'Dave' one. David48
NCC1701A Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I always book a aisle seat on the flight from LAX to BKK. About very 2 hours I walk up and down the 474 as far as I can go. Sitting in a chair all day at work is also very unhealthy. 1
Aussieroaming Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 A mate of mine got DVT on a long haul flight to Africa... 12 months later he suffered a massive coronary and died in the transit lounge between sectors due to a blood clot Don't take this event lightly because there are long term implications Good luck with it. 1
