Featured Replies

Growing up from those red shoes is a step in the right direction,

perhaps he finally matured and can retire in peace ?

Straying back on topic, I think it behoves us all to wish him a long and happy retirement, and remind him of the importance of keeping active

if he'd tell me some interesting vatileaks stories over lunch or dinner why not? of course i would offer him a castrated Rogan Josh. i abhor guests who might shit in their pants still sitting at the dining table.

Because all cardinals are still in conclave to discuss his successor as we speak i think he quit for reasons not known nor anticipated by the Vatican.

I never had you down for a Scottish Nationalist

Rogan Josh? What did the Pope like to eat? Are there fan magazines with recipes for his favorite dishes?

Anyway, back on topic, while Ray French is on his way up to Hedingley, we can get in a bit of speculation on why the Pope quit.

Harrry reckoned it was old age, but I think he was quite young, papally speaking.

I've not heard any supporting rumours, but it was about time he moved on; you can't develop a full professional career if you stay with one firm all your life.

Maybe he wants to spend more time with his family?

I was reading an article in the DM just now and it pointed out something that I hadn't really thought about before. Back in the day when being gay was not as accepted as it is now being a priest was one way of not having to answer the age-old question 'Why aren't you married'?

I 2nd that thought. Still in reflection this age old question doesn't justify some of their misbehaving s.

There's a report in The Times that there was a letter sent by a priest alleging misconduct by Cardinal O'Brien in 2001, this letter was sent in October and was separate from the 4 other complainants. The letter writer said he was writing direct to the Vatican as he didn't trust the Scottish Hierarchy to take his complaint seriously The Vatican appointed a Canadian Cardinal to investigate and he suggested to O'Brien that he quietly retire at 75. O'Brien accepted the suggestion and indicated poor health as the reason.

Rumours of the letter circulated among the Scottish clergy, and this prompted the gang of four to come forward to support the allegations. So the chronology of the reporting was out of track, it was the 2001 complaint that started the Hare running.

I'm not suggesting this was the primary reason why the Pope quit, but he must have been getting worn down by the constant stream of allegations. O'Brien was probably one of the last straws, the 17 December report being the Final straw.

ps. The Sunday Times will be running a full story on this new development re the 2001 allegation tomorrow, O'Brien's office has already indicated quietly they will issue a statement at the start of the week, I'm expecting a full Mea Culpa.

It's turned out that the Bigot of the Year is gay. You couldn't make it up.

Not an unusual occurrence in the world of gaydom.

You have to wear red shoes and a beanie if you want to attend...

Interestingly Pope john paul II as Benedict was Polish...The cardinals remain in conclave about the next pope..

Indeed he was born in Bavaria according to wikipedia but someway i got the perception of him being polish.

I have been researching this for awhile and cant seem to find any documentation of him being Polish nor his parents.

I remember my claim for him to be from Poland quite well and i am positive about this......

Interestingly Pope john paul II as Benedict was Polish...The cardinals remain in conclave about the next pope..

Not only was Benedict not Polish, but the Conclave doesn't start until, I think, March 11. The meetings before that are a General Congregation to discuss the Church's problems before the Conclave.

I get really tired of 'smart' people arguing about 'morals'. Morals are like fingerprints. Everyone has a set and they're all different. If being a Catholic gives people comfort and they don't harm anyone else who am I (or you) to deny them that comfort?

You might disagree with other people's religious beliefs but while you're posting on Thaivisa you will not belittle them.

Or lack of them? (religious beliefs)

next thing we might read is that Benedict (Ratzinger) was a Polish gay Jew who was an SS-guard in Auschwitz. that's why he was hiding in the Vatican wearing red shoes because this prevented extradition.

Uh, yeah - just blurt it all out at once, why don't you?. No suspense, no build-up... that could've run for days

See - no sense of comic timing, the Germans.

In an embarrassing revelation, Catholic leaders have been found to be living in a Rome apartment block that houses Europe's largest gay sauna.

You would have done better to quote the original source in The Independent.
