Visa Options For Uk Passport Holder With New Born Thai Child

Featured Replies

Hi I am a 32 year old British National, who has recently had a son (thai) with my thai girlfriend. We have a copy of the birth certificate for our child, though we are not married.

When i last came back to Thailand in October 2012 I was only able to be issued with a tourist visa from the Thai Consulate in Hull, this has since expired and I have already taken the 30 day extension of stay at my local immigration office in Chiang Mai.

Now i know that I can go and get another tourist visa in Laos, Phnom Penh, etc, though i was wandering if anywhere (?) in the region would issue me with a Non-Imm O Visa, based in the fact I now have a thai child.

Also what documents would be required? also any financial requirements? (I keep reading about 400K in bank or a 40K/month salary/income). BTW i do have the 400K but its not in a thai bank, or does it have to be? At today's pitiful exchange rate i don't really want to transfer 400K into my thai bank.

- Also as I understand is it the case that even if I went back to UK to apply for a non-o visa (due to having thai child), that it would unlikely to be accepted, as I am not married to our son's mother?

Anyone have any experience of how I can best extend my stay, given the circumstance I have mentioned above.

Cheers,

There is a 60 day extension of stay available to visit child - although birth certificate alone is not proof of parentage if GF goes with you with her ID and home register copy and birth certificate and says you are father they may provide for normal 1,900 baht fee.

Thanks for the response Loburi3. I did read about this 60 day extension of stay, so I got my GF to call up CM Immigration before I started the post. According to the staff at CM Immigration they only issue 30 day or 7 day extensions, and even said to her that nobody has ever applied for a 60 day extension......so that has confused me slightly. blink.png

From my perspective being able to extend by another 60 days would be ideal. Maybe I should call another immigration office and see what their response is??

I suspect the call was answered by someone not knowing about 60 day extensions - it has been routine for the last several years and I am very sure there actual immigration officers have issued them. Most of there business is one year extensions and those on education often get 90 day extensions so there information was not very helpful.
