Stayed down by the riverside area this time, two days visa run with my wife. didn't go near the city, ie Orchard Road way etc. Hotel was 170 a night and was 'ok'. Lots of nice bar/cafe places open late afternoon to 11/12. Usual prices make a meal for two with a bottle of wine around 120/130 sing dollars..

Transport from Changi we used the SMRT to Orchard, 2.40 sing each and then taxi to hotel 7 sing, about 40 minutes. Taxi from Changi to hotel is about 50 sing.

OK it's not the cheapest way to do a visa run but my wife works and a two or three day break every three months is a good idea for her.

Next time she wants to be make it a day longer and max out the cards.w00t.gif

First time I went to Singapore (about 4 years ago) I stayed in a very nice hotel near Clarke Quay. It was S$100 per night. Went back last month, same hotel, price had increased to S$158 per night.

I like Singapore. Great food and lots of places selling their own house brewed beer. But damned expensive. Marina Bay Sands is something to behold.

Taxi from the airport to your hotel cost you $S50? Did that come with a tour of the island as well?

Does seem a bit high, I haven't been to 'spore for a few years but I recall regular taxi (not Benz) from airport to central city area being around S$20-25.

Unless overherebc took one of the tourist trap black Chrysler 300C's then that would make sense at a $S35 flag fall...

Forgot about those ;)

Even the Mercedes aren't that expensive, if you snag one at the rank of course. Intentionally book one, and that's a different story...

Oh how I love all this high spending advice. My personal experience is that Singapore on a budget is exactly that, Singapore on the cheep .

Singapore on the cheep .

Like the budgie ;)

What is Singapore on a budget? Visiting Singapore without a visit to Orchard Towers or the wife or a combination of the two :P

Riverside, Boat Quay and Clarke Quay are also my favourite places to stay in Singapore. There's loads of places to eat, drink or shop without the rubbish, traffic and silly prices up on Orchard. I stayed at Studio-M for a very reasonable £60/night when it first opened but note that their prices have gone up steadily as well.
