Quite often I have called Thai companies in response to a job offer and I am surprised the number of times I am asked, Do you have a work permit ?

When I answer no it's up to you to assist me in applying for one it's usually the end of the conversation.

So many companies out there still unaware of the system !

Really? I thought it should be easy thing for those companies to get a work permit. Walen School is just being exterminated in another thread by some posters for providing work permits for their teachers.

Those companies also do not ask a prospective employee to pay circa 50,000 TBT for a work permit !

People do not pay for the work permit. They pay for the teacher training that will benefit them.

Do people receive an Internationally recognised or even a Thai recognised teaching qualification for their 50.000 or is this just a money generating scam ?

So is this an admission that Walen School provides work permits to "teachers" who pay 50.000 TBT for the privilege of working for Walen ?

Whatever you want to call it, no energy to fight with you guys. You get trained and you get a work permit. Great potential to earn living in Thailand or somewhere else for that matter. People pay for teacher training at other places and DO NOT get a work permit with that. 50k is not a lot of money, unless you come from some less developed countries, I cannot imagine westerners saying that 50k is a lot of money for a 120 lesson training course with a work permit. Even in Thailand it is not so much money.

If he is offering " training" there is no need for a WP! If he is recruiting "teachers" then there is a need for a WP ! I wonder what the WP actually says the "job" description is and where the place of work is ?

If they ask stupid questions like "Do you have a work permit", I think it means, "<deleted> off. We are not interested in hiring farangs." They probably do think a WP is something a green card that allows you to work anywhere. If you were already in a job with a WP but wanted to change jobs, you could tell you did have a work permit and they probably wouldn't know what to say.
