Cleft Palate Surgery

Featured Replies

hello

does anyone here have any experience of this surgery in Thailand and approximate costs? thank you fir any information.

I know Bangkok hospital does them but I think the specialist travels to various hospitals. Sorry, no idea on price.

If it is for a Thai citizen it can be done for free under the universal health care scheme. Will need to go to a tertiary level facility, either regional or in Bangkok, and will have to be referred there through lower levels of the system, but can do.

Another option, and this one not limited to Thais (i.e. stateless persons, immigrants etc OK) is here http://www.operationsmile.or.th/

To do this at a private hospital will run at least 200,000 baht I think, but can email and ask - try Bumrungrad, Bangkok Hospital, Samitivej and Vejthani. Vejthani will probably be a bit less than the first 3 and has a number of maxillo-facial plastic surgeons on staff.

We just had our 10 month old baby girl done about three weeks ago at Suan Dok hospital/ Sripat building (the private wing) in Chiang Mai. All private, no insurance the bill came to two hundred thousand Baht.

Initially we went to Chiang Mai RAM and although the 'expert' surgeon was going to charge an estimated 800,000 (their estimate, not mine), there were no photo's or any other evidence to ease our minds.

The wife did some research and found a doctor at Suan Dok who only does children with cleft palettes. He really is a great doctor who cares so much for the children brought to him and he had many photos showing before/ after surgery. Sorry but his name escapes me for now. If your wife is Thai then there is a great facebook group which provides much help in looking for a hospital and as well as support from other parents who are in the same situation.

I hope this helps.
