Medical Evacuation From Thailand - Resources

Featured Replies

Ill persons needing to be transported by plane will usually need a doctor’s “Fitness to Fly” certificate. Airlines have specific forms for
this which can be downloaded from their websites. Airlines also have their own specific requirements, so an initial discussion with the airlines should be the first step. Some airlines are more accommodating than others.

The doctor’s “Fitness to Fly” certificate will indicate the type of accompaniment (e.g. registered nurse, doctor, unskilled etc.) needed as well as any other requirements such as oxygen, suction etc. in-flight.

The following are resources for medical accompaniment/medical evacuation, whether it be by air or other means. All can provide trained medical personnel and medical supplies/equipment as well as help with the necessary clearances. Some can also provide the actual transport (land or air).

This is not an inexpensive affair as you will have to pay the r/t ticket of the escort, at least 1 nights accommodation at the arrival point and a fee on top of that. The general range is from 40,000 baht (nurse only, and not including travel costs) to 700,000 baht (nurse plus
doctor and extensive medical support). If the patient does not require skilled care, having a friend or relative travel from home to get them is by far more economical.

Be sure to make adequate arrangements on the arrival end for immediate transport of the patient to an appropriate facility.

These resources are not listed in any particular order, and it is advisable to consult several and compare prices and services.
