One ranger killed, one wounded, in Pattani ambush.

PATTANI, June 11 - One paramilitary ranger was killed and another was wounded in a bomb ambush in this southern border province Monday.

Private First Class Charnchote Phetkong, leading the patrol, was hit in the neck and torso by shrapnel. Army ranger volunteer Anurak Sukree was slightly wounded.

Pfc Chamchote was pronounced dead at hospital, while the other victim is receiving treatment.

The roadside bomb was detonated as the 12-man foot patrol unit was on duty in Yarang district.

The ambush is believed to have been done by insurgents active in the area. (MCOT online news).

Thailand's English skills lowest in SEA

BANGKOK: -- The JobStreet.com English Language Assessment (JELA) results show Singapore workers have the highest average score while Thai workers have the lowest. The results are from the 1,540,785 assessment takers in the Southeast Asia countries of Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Northern Thailand ethnic farmers use elephants to farm rice

CHIANG Mai: -- Elephants in the district of Omkoi in Thailand's northern province of Chiang Mai have different roles than pachyderms elsewhere. Their main task is to plough rice fields once Thailand enters the rainy season and when hilltribe people here, the Karen, do their rice farming in the mountains.
