Phuket police street shooter walks free
Phuket Gazette -

PHUKET: All charges against a Phuket police officer arrested for shooting dead a civilian in Phuket Town have been dropped.

Cpl Rachaporn Semaksorn and his brother, Dechaporn, were arrested after witnesses identified Cpl Rachaporn as the man who pulled out a gun and shot 21-year-old Ekkasit Sangangam at point-blank range.

The incident occurred on Phun Pol Soi 11, in the heart of Phuket Town’s red light district, at about 2:30am on May 5 last year .

Cpl Rachaporn was subsequently discharged from the Royal Thai Police while he was facing a murder charge and Mr Dechaporn was charged with conspiracy to murder.

However, Phuket Provincial Chief Public Prosecutor Chiengsean Panhya has dropped all charges against the pair.

He declined to tell the Phuket Gazette why.

“We have decided to drop the case. We have formally reported this to Phuket Governor Maitri Inthusut for his acknowledgment, but he has yet to sign his approval and return it to us,” Chief Prosecutor Chiengsean told the Gazette.

During the seven months of investigation, Phuket City Police reported difficulty in obtaining witness statements against the policeman and his brother.

“We understand that this is a difficult investigation due to the fact that the police do not have enough information about the witnesses, not even names,” Chief Prosecutor Chiengsean told the Gazette last year.

How does that saying go? "getting away with murder"

During the seven months of investigation, Phuket City Police reported difficulty in obtaining witness statements against the policeman and his brother.

Déjà vu all over again.

Scary stuff...

Thats why I want nothing to do with Thai police

They are above the law...

I guess these "witnesses" know better than to step forward and ID a cop for a shooting just for the sake of 'justice'. whistling.gif

It must be those magic spells at work, protecting them again.

I don't know why the cops don't just go around machine gunning people in shopping malls, take a dump on a restaurant table and take all the gold from gold shops as there is nobody around to do anything about it.

This is just sooo Thailand Justice... And will all the other political BS happening right now with reshuffles and all .. really am rethinking about staying here ...whistling.gif

It's a disgrace, but hardly surprising for Planet Phuket.

Or Pai... Or Kanchanaburi... Or......

I think ballistics should easily have proved the victim was shot with a bullet from Cpl Ratchaporn's gun. No doubt he was off duty out of uniform and therefore illegally carrying a firearm which by itself is an offence that could get him 10 years in prison. It is pathetic that even police corporals are allowed to murder people with impunity.

Yes I fully agree with you, but its surprising how many farangs will tell you their in-laws are high ranking policemen. I could think of nothing more shame full in any country. I suspect these loser farangs are insecure and were bullied as kids in school

Wonderful... more murderers walking around free near my home.

The Royal Thai Police force is a national disgrace and is held in low regard by many in this country. It is a totally corrupted collection of the bottom feeders in this country and acts as an amplifier of everything wrong in this society. They are dedicated to protect and serve their masters and own intrests. No mater how you polish a turd, it is still a turd.

The simple paraffin test used by real police for more than 100 years could identify the shooter. Simple is sometimes impossible here.

I don't know why the cops don't just go around machine gunning people in shopping malls, take a dump on a restaurant table and take all the gold from gold shops as there is nobody around to do anything about it.

Please don't give them any ideas. They cause enough trouble with their impotence as it is. neus.gifrolleyes.gif

let me guess, soon that killer cop will get a promotion

isn't there a public defender to rule against the judge's inhuman ruling ?????????????????

i bet he has been moved !

"I guess these "witnesses" know better than to step forward and ID a cop for a shooting just for the sake of 'justice'" and get shot themselves, then repeat the earlier steps. I am thankful I live in a just, above board town, where cops know the rules (Jomtien/Pattaya).

Simply Amazing Thailand. I'm outta here! no ifs ands or buts. This is a DISGRACE and should be reported around the world. I would NEVER recommend this place for any visitors.

Buddhist? oh pleeeeeeeease

Don't confuse Thailand with Phuket. They are two different countries. :) :)
