Hi, I usually go to the the Oriental or the Peninsula if I want some river air but they're kind of expensive and not quite discrete enough. Any recomendations for a late afternoon/evening bar/coffee/restaurant hangout by the river. I'd like to hop on the Chao Phaya Express and hop off if at all possible

thanks

I like the terrace of Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa (Marriott Riverside) much better than the Oriental and the Peninsula (or Shangri-La). It's farther away from the city center than the other three so the access is not so good and not sure if there's Chaophraya express pier nearby. They do have a shuttle boat service between the pier near BTS Taksin bridge station and the hotel. Terrace is so-so but Montien Riverside's food and their dinner cruise boat are very good.

The Shangri-La has a pretty good set up. Still not cheap and not exactly the kind of place to go with rented folks, but after lunch, it's pretty quiet - don't know about discrete, however.....

The Marriot, Peninsula. Hilton, Sheraton, Shangrila, Oriental. all have nice terraces. Nice prices too.

Across the river from Taksin Station is a Thai seafood restaurant and the Yok Yor seafood is nearby the Hilton.

Up-river a bit is the Wan Fah thai food.

I see a bunch of small boats for hire at the Peninsula, Oriental Pier.

Might be a good idea to hire one and investigate.
