When I park long time at NST, I remove a fuse from the fusebox and replace it with a broken one, so the car won't start. Good luck to any thieve figuring that out.

Good idea but doesn't that affect the car alarm?

No idea. But what good is a car alarm anyway when one is 7000 miles away from it. Plus car alarm will drain battery.

I have just tried flying to BKK from Surat rather than BKK Air from Samui (saved 12500 Baht).

A few observations:

1. The car park at the Airport is NOT secure. The only security is at the entrance gate to the airport which is manned by the military and they seemed

less than interested so having copies of my ID was not required. I was a little nervous leaving my truck for a number of days but it was still intact on my

return.

2. The signpost directions (particularly near the city are hopeless), and the Google map seems way out of date.

3. Try to avoid the environs of Surat during the rush hour.

4. The Air Asia flight both ways was very smooth, everything on time.

5. The SeaTrans ferry pre-booking service worked very well both ways.

All in all it's a big savings if you don't mind taking approx 4 hours longer each way. I would do it again if I had the time to spare.

Perhaps using Nakhorn Airport would be better as I think the roads would be less busy.

The only big disappointment was the lack of secure car parking.

Thanks for the critique Gatorade. It sounds like a positive and money-saving alternative.thumbsup.gif

Luckily I have a car that no one would want to steal.wink.png
