Mates,

I'm thinking of getting two tvs but at the moment I've got only one cable tv wall socket.

Is it possible to split the cable signal and to feed two different tv sets, so each could tune independently to any of the cable channels?.

if so, what equipment do I need and how much would that cost?

TIA

You can split the signal with a splitter, yes it's called that. One inlet and two outlets usually with screw on connectors that you will need to buy separately. One note of caution, by splitting the signal you will also halve the signal output to each TV so the signal to each could be poor. The above applies to a signal from a normal TV aerial and, yes you can watch different channels on each TV. If you have a pay cable or satellite for your TV you can still split the signal but both would have the same channel from the box. Splitter and connectors should only cost 100 - 200 baht

Sorry misread your post. If it's a cable installation you have to split the signal before the cable box you use to change channels. You would then need a second cable box for the second TV so you can watch different channel. If it is pay per month cable you would also need a second card from the provider to unscramble the signal.

Not to get too technical but there is a good chance you would also need a line amplifier to boost the signal.

You'd have to have an extremely weak signal to require a booster if you're only splitting once. I've done a 4 way split on satellite and never needed a booster - in fact loss of quality is not even noticeable.

If you have satellite and cable (i.e Sophon), both TV's can change the cable channels independently if you have a pair of splitters set up properly. Unfortunately if you only have one box for Truevisions or whatever, all Tv's are stuck with the same channel. But one TV can be watching Sophon, and another can watch True with no probs.
