I'm not sure that a proper wood burning fireplace would contribute much extra smoke anyway Harrry.

If the wood is properly seasoned it burns virtually smoke free. I should know I chopped enough of it as a kid.

The problem with the smoke creating fires is the fuel is too green when they burn it so it smoulders for days rather than just giving off heat.

I quite often look at the back wall and imagine what a fireplace would look like there.

Or a nice cast iron stove with a kettle on it.

I haven't lived here in the cold season yet. But I have video called with my wife's family and laughed when they were all bundled up with coats, blankets and stocking hats. And sitting outside around a fire! My first thought was to import a wood burner. I gather I'm not the first to have had that idea. Has anyone done it? Or are the electric heaters the answer?

harry has an invertered air con , this is the answer.

Aussie football dont wear padding vf i took a video of it to southern illinios when i lived there they amazed that they did not have proctection

Sent from my GT-I9500 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Southern Illinois? I did university there. Of course, a very long time ago. Go Salukis!

yes i lived in Marion , not far from Carbondale. The moved to Paducah in Kentucky. Loved it so much , different culture , the simple home cooking , the churches, the football, as you call it . and the best thing was the breakfast in the morning from crackerbarrell ....yummy...

I had a great time in Southern Illinois. Somewhat similar to CR province in its rural nature. I still go back occasionally for the fishing.

Funny that the Crackerbarrel stuck in your memory. My wife wasn't very fond of American food, and she loathed fast food places. But she loved Crackerbarrel! Whenever we took road trips that was our stop for meals.

crackerbarrel yummy...the apple butter and pancakes were to die for . loved the outlay of the restaurant as well.

question for all the Rai Aryan brotherhood biggrin.png

The first time I went to CR 6 years ago, it was the cool season , when woke up in the morning it was very cold , how do you nice people keep warm in the winter time .Do you have heaters or wood burners or whatever. In Australia we had log fires or ducted heating , which i know will be out of the question up there.

thanks everybody .

blankets

thanks pornchop

i was thinking of bringing over a wood heater from Aus .

i have had one before and they are grouse (great)

I remember after being very cold a few mornings going out to look for electric or gas heaters to buy. For some reason they are insanely expensive compared to usa prices.

I asked a thai friend what the local thais do to stay warm as I could not imagine most of them paying so much for the overpriced heaters.

Her reply was one word: Blankets.

Not the answer you were hoping for, I imagine. An average farang must be 2-blanket's worth??

good afternoon

went to the movie a few days ago with my lovely wife , miow. We went to see the Lone Ranger This movie was entertaining, but had a lot of problems with its characters, plot, and direction. but overall we enjoyed it .

Came home and cooked my wife dinner . I did a three year apprenticeship out of 5 years (was young and wanted to party).

I still have the passion to cook every night. Miow loves western food especially aussie beef.

How many of you enjoy cooking or do you cook western food at home ?

I went to see the Lone Ranger this year and quite enjoyed it.

Agreed it was disjointed but Johnny Depp put in a good role as Tonto.

Good chase scene with the trains at the end.

I'm not as keen on cooking as I used to be, my meals are unimaginative now, usually a roast or Mexican.

Just listening to the 1966 Bob Dylan concert where he switched from folk to electric and lost half his fans and picked up twice as many new ones.

Brilliant sound, I have to download more from this site... cool.png

Was at his concert in Leicester 1966.

First half was Dylan, solo as usual.

Curtain raised after the intermission to reveal Bob and The Band and within 10 minutes half the audience had left (with Bob giving them the middle finger and some choice comments). Well, they were the ones who missed out. laugh.png

Is it true that Lance Armstrong has been signed to play next year? laugh.png

I'm a Port supporter, we would never need to worry about that sort of thing, the club cant afford it. cool.png

At least Lance had the ball to publicly admit his performance was enhanced. biggrin.png

I like to cook western food had home but my Thai wife, bless her, believes that cooking is her job.

She only has to watch me cook a dish once and then she can do a very good job of it herself.

How nice it is to read a pleasant thread for a change.

From a tin..and not very good ones. We are not rich. To make it worse it does not last very long as it is one thing everyone in the family likes and more disapears over to the big house than stays at ours.

good afternoon\

i know this is not Thai related but I was pleased to read this .Melbourne was my home city . I still would not move back as Thailand in my eyes is number 1

Melbourne has taken out the hat-trick when it comes to the best city in the world to live in.

The Victorian capital came out top among 140 cities for providing the best living conditions for the third year in a row.

Adelaide, Sydney and Perth again made it into the top 10 of The Economist Intelligence Unit's liveability survey, with Auckland the only New Zealand city in that group at number 10.

Top 10 cities
1, Melbourne, Australia
2, Vienna, Austria
3, Vancouver, Canada
4, Toronto, Canada
5, Calgary, Canada
6, Adelaide, Australia
7, Sydney, Australia
8, Helsinki, Finland
9, Perth, Australia

10, Auckland, New Zealand

The bottom 10 cities
Tehran, Iran
Douala, Cameroon
Tripoli, Libya
Karachi, Pakistan
Algiers, Algeria
Harare, Zimbabwe
Lagos, Nigeria
Port Moresby, PNG
Dhaka, Bangladesh
Damascus, Syria

I am pretty sure every city in the world has some obscure survey rating them best in the world but congratulations all the same.biggrin.png

Kind of a quiet day on the forum today. That often happens after a busy day like yesterday.wink.png

yes every city has something beautiful about it , even though some people who came to Melbourne and said yes this is the number one city , I really dont believe them. I lived in cities in America and Canada and thought they were great. Better than Melbourne .

I grew up in Melbourne and sowed a lot of my wild oats there. It was a good place to grow up then. I have hardly been back since but it is not the same place. Many places are good. Mostly it depends on who is around you.

mmmm, yes It is quite today , drove down to Cambodia border with some friends as as they had to do a visa run. He i not at retirement age yet.

Mt wife packed our bag and then we waited for them to come to out house . They arrived and wanted to go in one car . So we went in ours ,my wife decided to change our bag to a smaller one and away we went . Arrived at the border and checked into out hotel and was excited to get into Cambodia.

We got ready to go the the checkpoint and !!!!!!!!!!!!! my wife left my passport in the other bag ,. so my friends left us and went over by themselves and had a good time . We ended up going to a national park and had a great time too. So one bad mistake turned into a pleasing day with the monkey's and the wonderful gardens we went too.

I never trust anyone else with that stuff Kevvy, when I go out the door I do a mental check list... passport, wallet, phone, $$$, camera... the only thing I don't worry about is the car keys because it's only a 20 meter walk to come back for them.

well, i had the wallet and car keys and my camera but leave all the other stuff to my wife as he is always the one to be organized , but not this time , i think it was just that everything changed in a couple of minutes. anyway seadu we had a great time . It would have been different if we were at the airport going to Aus ... Made me think too. double check in the future. On the other side of the story my friend said to me later on , you did not get angry at your wife? I said why it cannot change anything ,,,,,mai pen rai
